Rev. J A Cuthbertson, Sr. 91, of Charlotte, NC passed away Wednesday, April 1 ,2026 at his residence.
Born June 16, 1934, in Matthews, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Len Cuthbertson and Rosa Bell Harrison Cuthbertson. He graduated from Second Ward High School and faithfully served as the pastor of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC for over 54 years.
Throughout his ministry, Pastor Cuthbertson touched countless lives through preaching, teaching, counseling, and pastoral care. Known for sharing “hidden gems” of wisdom, he delivered more than 2,600 sermons, officiated hundreds of weddings, baptisms, and baby dedications, and faithfully shepherded his community with compassion and dedication.
In honor of his wishes, the family kindly asks that **in lieu of flowers** donations be made to the **Willie Montgomery Scholarship Fund (In Memory of J.A. Cuthbertson).**

Celebration of Rev. J A Cuthbertson, Sr. will begin with public viewing on Monday, April 13, 2026 at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM, and Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Homegoing Celebration will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church 517 Baldwin Ave. Charlotte, NC 28204. His remains will lie in state at 10:00 AM and the Celebration will begin at 12:00 PM. Interment will be Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Beatties Ford Rd. Huntersville, NC 28078 at 11:00 AM.
