Mrs. Ethelene Coleman McKenzie,83 of Waxhaw,NC. Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 21,2019 at Marvin AME Zion Church 1520 Crane Rd. Waxhaw, NC.Visitation will begin at 8:00 am and the service will follow at 9:00 am. Interment will take place at York Memorial Park 5150 S.Tryon St. Charlotte, NC 28217. Ethelene Coleman McKenzie, “Little Bit”, 83, was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was a graduate of West Charlotte High School. Ethelene received her LPN at City Hospital School of Nursing, New York, where she met two extraordinary ladies, Stella Ann Glover and Willette Jackson. They were like sisters. Ethelene received her Bachelor’s Degree at Brooklyn College and her Masters of Science at Pace University in New York. Ethelene started her spiritual path at the United House of Prayer in Charlotte, North Carolina. When she moved to Yonkers, New York, and in need of a church home, she found Metropolitan AME Zion. At Metropolitan Ethelene was a Trustee, a Deaconess, on the Pastors Aide Committee and Head of the Nurse’s Unit, Calendar Club Member, Class Leader, and was Crowned Miss Metropolitan. She was a dedicated Church member. Several years after her retirement, Ethelene moved back to North Carolina and settled in Waxhaw where she found a new church home in Marvin AME Zion. While at Marvin AME Zion, Ethelene was a member of the following ministries: Lay Council Health Ministry and Deaconess. Ethelene moved to Waxhaw, North Carolina, to retire with her husband, Mr. Charles McKenzie and other family members.On September 13, 2019, Friday morning at 4:00 a.m., Ethelene transitioned from her earthly home. She was preceded in death by her Sons, Charles William McKenzie, Jr. and Sheldon Gerald McKenzie.Ethelene is survived by her Husband, Charles McKenzie (Waxhaw, North Carolina); Grandson, Brandon Elijah Thompson (Waxhaw, North Carolina); Granddaughter, Sheana McKenzie (Houston, Texas); Great Granddaughter, Alexis Jones (Houston, Texas); Granddaughter, Aisha Allen (Virginia Beach, Virginia); Great Granddaughter, T’Nyiah Alexander (Virginia Beach, Virginia); Johnny Coleman, Nephew/Son of Indian Trail, North Carolina); Christian Shepherd Coleman, Great Nephew/Grandson (UNC Pembroke) along with a host of other relatives and friends. |
