Ella Mae Arant Roland

Mrs. Ella Mae Arant Roland,84 of Charlotte, NC. passed away Tuesday, September 10,2019 at Levine & Dickson Aldersgate Hospice House Charlotte. Funeral service will be held Friday, September 20,2019 at St. Luke Baptist Church 1600 Norris Ave. Charlotte,NC 28206. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. Interment will in the Gethsemane Memorial Gardens 1520 Sugar Creek Rd.West. Charlotte,NC 28269.

Ella Arant Roland was born on September 20, 1934 in Monroe, NC to Bundy and Flora Arant.  In addition to her parents, she preceded in death by her husband, Alvin K. Roland Sr. and brothers, Nathaniel B. Arant, Hazel Arant, Louis Arant and Oscar Arant.

Ella was a proud member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church for over 30 years and was a member of the Usher board.  Affectionately called, Grandma, Granny and Nana, Ella truly loved her family.  Her home was always open and welcoming and she never met a stranger.  A master at preparing and serving “soul food”, her favorite place was the kitchen where she was always prepared to whip up a good meal.  Proud, confident and the consummate Diva, she loved shopping and spending time with family and friends.  Her true passion was dancing and she enjoyed doing so until her health begin to fail her.

Ella leaves to cherish her fondest memories, her children; Raymond Arant (Brenda), Alvin K. Roland Jr. (Chantay), Cheryl L. Foster (Albert), Kelvin E. Roland (Brenda), Steven L. Roland (Misty), Tamatha L. Ingram (Alvin) and Treska Roland; 3 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; one brother; Thurmond Arant (Geraldine); three sisters; Coretha Medley (Troy), Jane Parks (Larry) and Florence Miller.  Her longtime partner, Mr. James E. Byrd, whom she affectionately called “the love of my life”; Mrs. Bonnie Sutton; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends, all of whose lives she deeply touched.
