Evelyn Prather Jones

Mrs. Evelyn Prather Jones, 88 of Charlotte,NC. passed away Sunday, August 25,2019 at Charlotte Square Assisted Living Community. Funeral service will be held Saturday, August 31,2019 at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. Interment will take place in the Sunset Memory Gardens 8901 Lawyers Rd. Charlotte, NC 28227.

Born to the late James Patrick and Jammie Prather, Evelyn Prather entered the world on November 26, 1930 in Mecklenburg County and departed her earthly home on August 25, 2019.

Evelyn was educated in the Charlotte, Mecklenburg School System where she attended the historic Second Ward High School. There she met and married the love of her life Paul Jones.

Her career was as varied as her interests. Evelyn worked as a waitress, a florist, a CNA at Charlotte Memorial hospital and culminated her career as an independent CNA contractor all in Charlotte, NC.

For those who knew this mother, grandmother, great grannie, and auntie they appreciated her sense of humor, her easy-going manner, her ability to be out- spoken and her abrupt directness. As a strict disciplinarian Evelyn could be seen beckoning with her finger and stating, “Come here and let me talk to you”.

Evelyn had a love for God and gave her life to Christ at an early age by joining Clinton Chapel AMEZ church. She later united with Truelight Tabernacle of Deliverance Church of God in Christ, Mount Holly, NC to continue rendering service to God.

Her love extended beyond the church walls by becoming a community worker, where she assisted elderly citizens, participated in voter registrations and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.  Her love further encompassed traveling and shopping where she was often “Dressed to Impressed”.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband and child Joyce Ann Jones, those left to cherish her precious and priceless memories are her children: Linda Jones Caldwell (Willie); Paul Jones; Timothy Jones; Eric Jones (Karen) and Cathenia Jones (Cedric) all of Charlotte, NC.  Twelve grandchildren; twenty-two grandchildren; three great-great grands; sister, Betty Harris Charlotte, NC; brother Robert Prather; one niece, one nephew; Goddaughter Priscilla Ferguson and a host of relatives and kin.
