Ebony, the oldest daughter of Patricia D. Martin and Karaiba Konbhwani- Kijana, was born on November 3, 1972 in Charlotte, NC. She was raised by strong females to include, Mrs. Hattie B. Anthony, that instilled a strong foundation for life and community service. Ms. Ebony A. Moore was an entrepreneur in every sense of the word. She was the Founder and CEO of Miss Ebony’s Foundation a 501 3(C) community-based youth enrichment and personal development organization dedicated to empowering girls by introducing and sharpening life skills with an etiquette-base curriculum. With a professional career that spans more than twenty-five years, Ebony was considered an expert in youth program development. Prior to establishing Miss Ebony’s Foundation Inc., Ebony began as the Director of Youth Wellness programs for the YWCA of the Central Carolinas. There she secured a grant from Nike Inc. to develop and implement a volleyball and basketball league for all girls. This grant ensured that 300 girls from underserved communities were able to participate in organized sports. As a result of her groundbreaking work with the YWCA, Ebony was extended a position with the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, and she became the first African-American female to hold the position of Sports and Recreation Director for the Johnston Branch. There she continued to develop and implement wellness programs for youth with an emphasis in inner-city girls. Driven to do more to impact the lives of youth in the community, Ebony became a Language Arts teacher for a local charter school. As she worked hand in hand with the students there, she quickly noticed how the youth were suffering socially, lacking self-esteem. She wanted to give these children a platform to express themselves positively and develop a positive self-image and so Miss Ebony’s Foundation was born. Since 2000, Miss Ebony’s has served thousands of youth within the Charlotte community, preparing them for etiquette- appropriate situations through workshops. The workshops she designed emphasized social and life skills with a focus on personal development, entrepreneurship and etiquette. Under her direction, she created Miss Ebony’s Angels; a modeling troop of African-American youth ages 3-18. This program taught poise, posture, public speaking and positive presentation on the runway. Miss Ebony’s Angels has performed in over twenty fashion shows in North Carolina and has been featured during the 2008 CIAA Basketball Tournament as well as a grand opening of a Target store in the Charlotte area. Ebony’s etiquette workshops spoke specifically to inner city youth, providing positive role models from within the community to help empower youth for the future. In 2003, Ebony launched Diva Day Camp, a summer day camp for girls ages 10-14. Diva Day Camp served 600 girls over the course of five years. Ebony also created Everything Etiquette, LLC to educate professional athletes and Fortune 500 companies. Under the direction of Everything Etiquette, LLC, Ebony served as the etiquette specialist for the NFL’s Carolina Panthers and the NCAA’s First Team’s athletic program. Ebony was a scholar of Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. During her tenure at Winston-Salem State University she was a Varsity Cheerleader and became a beloved sister of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. She furthered her education at Pfeiffer University in Charlotte, North Carolina where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts and also obtained a Master of Science Degree in Social and Community Services through Capella University. Ebony was the recipient of the 2007 Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Sigma Legacy Award for Outstanding Contributions in Social Action as well as The Charlotte REACH 2010 Program for Outstanding Contributions in Youth Development. Ebony was also a finalist for the Steve Harvey Hoodie Award for Best Community Leader in 2008. Most recently, Ebony was the middle school administrator for ACE Academy Charter School located in Harrisburg, NC. Ebony’s most recent career accomplishment was her role as the Growth and Development Manager for National Training Network for schools located in the New York City School District.
