Mrs. Mary Louise Outing Hillery 76, of Denver, NC. passed away Monday February 25, 2019 at Atrium Health – Lincolnton. Private Service Mary Louise Hillery, the daughter of the late Mr. Press Outing and Willie Mae Foster Outing, was born July 10, 1942, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She went to the Lord on February 25, 2019.
Mary graduated from West Charlotte High School in 1961 and attended Mecklenburg College where she majored in Dietetics. After, she moved to New York where she met and married Joseph Nathan Hillery, and produced three children from their union of 53 years. Mary was a dedicated employee with the New York Telephone Company for 24 years as a Routing and New Technology Manager, Assistant Trunk Forecasting Supervisor, Assistant Keypunch Supervisor, and Administrative Service Clerk. After working for the New York Telephone Company, she became an entrepreneur and opened a daycare center. Mary moved back to Charlotte in 1998 where she provided care as a foster mother to several children for ten years at the Department of Social Services in Lincoln County.
There are a number of people who will cherish Mary in their memories: spouse: Joseph Nathan Hillery; two daughters: Donna Louise Hillery and Dena Melissa Ross; one son: Duane Jamal Hillery; son-in-law: Todd Olander Ross; five grandchildren: Latisha Melissa Ross, Topaz Eliis Ross, Todd Xavier Ross, Donovan Jamal Hillery, and Denicia Janice Hillery. (Gwendolyn Vazquez, the mother of Donovan and Denicia); one sister: Deloris Outing; two brothers: Isaiah Outing (Gladys) and Don P. Outing (Mary); eleven nieces and nephews: Don Curtis Outing, Anita Walker, Shirley Outing, Reginald Outing, Emily Outing, Patrice Sims, Margarette Barnett, Michael Jenning, Deborah Hillery, Cynthia Hillery, and Darryl Hillery; god daughter: Zayda Humphrey.
Mary is survived by a host of cousins, great great nieces, nephews and many close friends including Barbara Young Humphrey.
Her legacy was the love for family, children, friendship, kindness, and a sense of humor. Mary was so giving and will truly be missed by all. She touched the lives of everyone that she met and loved everyone.
