Mr. Era Gene Vaughn, Sr. 81, of Charlotte, NC. passed away Sunday July, 22,2018 at W.G.Hefner V.A. Medical Center Salisbury, NC. Public viewing will be held Thursday July, 26,2018 at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm.The family will receive guests from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Graveside service and Military rites will take place on Friday July, 27,2018 @ 11:00 am in the Salisbury National Cemetery 501 Statesville Blvd. Salisbury, NC 28144. Era Gene Vaughn Sr
On Sunday, July 22, 2018, a magnificent man, Era Gene Vaughn, Sr. was called home to be with the Lord. He was born on September 26, 1936 in Taft, Oklahoma to the late William and Ruby Vaughn. He was a 1955 graduate of Manual Training High School in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Soon after high school graduation, Era Sr. enlisted in the United States Army. After serving his country, he moved to Detroit, Michigan and worked for Chrysler Corporation. In July 1971, he accepted his friend’s invitation to attend a Gary High School Class Reunion in Detroit. According to Era Sr., it was the best decision he ever made because it was there that he met the love of his life, Ida Spicer Vaughn. After courting for 3 months, in November 1971, Era Gene Vaughn, Sr. and Ida Spicer wed in holy matrimony. Their beautiful 47-year love affair served as an example of a Godly marriage. Era Sr. received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and was a faithful follower of Christ. He served in ministry as a deacon for many years. He was a man of integrity, principle and honor. He loved God, his beautiful wife, his family and many friends. It was a delight and a pleasure to be in his company. His joyous smile would light up a room. Era Sr. was known for his witty sense of humor and keen intelligence. One of his favorite sayings to his children and grandchildren was ‘You be like who you hang with.’ He was preceded in death by three sisters: Barbara Fitzpatrick, Helen Castile, and Patricia Vaughn; one brother, Timothy Vaughn; four brothers in law: Harding Spicer, Sr., Clyde Spicer, Joseph Spicer and Benjamin Spicer; one sister in law, Pauline Fondren. He leaves to cherish his memory, his bride of 47 years, Ida Spicer Vaughn. His loving children: daughter, Lisa Vaughn and two sons: Era G. Vaughn Jr. (Wendy) and William G. Vaughn. Six beloved grandchildren: Brandon D. Vaughn, Devian S. Vaughn, Halston J. Main, Era G. Vaughn III, William G. Vaughn Jr., and Gabrielle A. Vaughn. His two sisters: Margaret Banks (Frank) and Sherri Banks (Harold). One brother in law, Floyd Spicer (Yvonne). Three sisters in law: Lilly Mae Rivers, Margaret Walker and Betty Creasy (James) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The Veteran’s Cemetery has a restriction on flowers. In lieu of flowers, expressions of love may be made in the form desired for Ida Vaughn and the Vaughn family. |
