CHARLOTTE – James Alexander Pride, Sr, 72, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017 at the Liberty House Hospice facility at the Bill Hefner Veteran’s Hospital in Salisbury, NC. Mr. Pride was born January 25, 1945 in Matthews, NC where he was reared. He is the son of the late William and Annie Pride of Matthews, NC. Mr. Pride graduated from J.H. Gunn High School in Charlotte and attended Central Piedmont Community College. He served in the United States Army in the infantry division, 1st Calvary and fought in the Vietnam War from 1965-67. He was a certified marksman and received Vietnam National Defense service medals. He was a proud employee of Eastern Airlines where he worked on ramp service, and enjoyed the travel benefits afforded to him and his family. Mr. Pride retired from CarMax. He dedicated his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of the family church, Ben Salem Presbyterian. He is survived by his children Bridget Wall-Lennon, James Pride Jr., Timothy Pride and Jill Williams; his former wife, friend and primary caregiver Betty Wall Pride; his grandchildren, Jaihlan Pride, Dejah Brown, Lauren Lennon, Joshua Pride and Jizelle White; his sister Gwendolyn Bostic of Chester, SC, brother William (Evelyn) and sister Annie Turner; both of Charlotte; his nieces and nephews: Mayhue Bostic III, Crystal Pharr, Christopher Turner and Channing Turner. Several great nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law Remalle Mitchem. He will be missed by his great nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Pride was a musician who played the saxophone. He enjoyed listening to music and “yarding”…working in the yard and gardening. He loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed chatting with other military veterans, in particular his buddies of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 7775 in Charlotte.Funeral service will be held Monday September 11, 2017 at Grace Memorial Baptist Church 4001 Nevin Rd. Charlotte, NC 28262. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm and the service will follow at 1:00 pm. Military rites and interment will take place the Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
