Mrs. Sarah Mackey Turner 82, of Charlotte,NC. passed away Monday July 3,2017 at CMC- University Charlotte,NC. Funeral service will be held Monday July 10, 2017 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church 3400 Beatties Ford Rd. Charlotte, NC 28216. Memorial service will begin at 11:00 am and visitation will follow beginning at 12:00 pm. Funeral service will begin at 1:00pm. Interment will take place at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens Huntersville, NC. 28078.
Mrs. Sarah Turner, daughter of the late Mr. Willie and Irene Mackey was born on May 1, 1935 in Lancaster, South Carolina. She departed this life on July 3, 2017 following a brief illness.
Mrs. Turner attended Lancaster County Public School and graduated from Barr Street High School. She joined, and was baptized at the Mackey Family Church, Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lancaster, SC at at a young age.
After graduating, she attended the Cosmetology and Barber School in Rock Hill, SC after which she spent many years attending and caring for her clients.
Sara later married Mr. Harry Turner and traveled all over the country during his military career. After leaving the military, the Turner Family moved to Charlotte, NC. During this time she became a long standing member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. She was employed at Sadaberg as a seamstress and became well known for styles and creations. She was also employed by HUB Uniforms where she made uniforms for the Police and Fire Departments.
In the late 1960’s, Mrs. Turner became a member of Electa Chapter #174- Order of Eastern Star. As a member she held the office of Matron, Secretary and any other office that needed her knowledge to serve. During the late 1970’s, she became a Daughter of Pisgah Temple #228-IBPOE of W. The two organizations were her heart and soul.
Sara loved people, and became a master of organizing bus trips. This was her favorite pastime…she greatly enjoyed working with all of the people that she called family.
Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; son, Harry Jr.; grandson, Deant; 5 brothers, James, Jay, Bill, Johnny, and Arthur; 4 sisters, Louise, Pauline, Minnie, and Lillie.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her son Thurman Turner and wife Meggan of Detroit, Michigan;her sister, Mrs. Idell Mackey Ligon, and one brother, McArthur Mackey; grandsons, Nekwa(Michelle), Aaon, Thurran, Ryan, and Jerrick; granddaughters, Ursula, Teagonna; daughter/Niece Sandra; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grand-children; nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
