Mrs. Bonita Booker Chapman 57, of Charlotte,NC. passed away Tuesday May 30, 2017 at Novant Health Medical Center. Funeral service will be held Sunday June 4, 2017 at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm and the service will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery West. Bonita “Bonnie” Booker Chapman, daughter of David Booker and Novella Kirkpatrick Booker, was born on June 3, 1959 in Charlotte, NC. She departed this life on May 30, 2017.
She graduated from Olympic High School in 1977 and attended Central Piedmont Community College as a graphics art major. Bonnie retired, after 24 years of service, from Frito-Lay in Charlotte, N.C.
Bonnie loved to travel. She vacationed in the Caribbean. She liked the Bahamas and St. Thomas, but she was especially fond of the Virgin Islands, a place she had visited on several occasions. Another one of Bonnie’s favorite past times was photography. She was an excellent photographer and loved to take pictures at special occasions, including birthday parties, baby showers and reunions. She also loved to do gardening and had a green thumb like her late grandmother, Ruth Booker. She knew all of her special plants by name and had a summer vegetable garden, which she generously shared with everyone.
She was loving, caring and always thinking of others. Her generosity was legendary. Whether it was reminding family members to call each other on special occasions, suggesting what people should pack for their vacations or buying an item that someone could use later, you could always count on Bonnie to be thinking of the needs of others.
Bonnie wasn’t afraid of trying new things, either. She enjoyed watching television shows about cooking and dining almost as much as she enjoyed eating a good meal. Her standards were high: Not just any food would do. If her plate wasn’t right, it was going back to the kitchen — and probably yours, too, along with it! Although she didn’t spend a lot of time in the kitchen, she was known for her banana pudding, (which tasted “just like grandmother’s”), her cheese ball and her fancy appetizers, which were favorites at family events.
She was loved by all who knew her.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her grandparents, one aunt (Claudette Kirkpatrick) and one uncle (Avon Kirkpatrick). She is survived by her father (David Booker), her mother (Novella Kirkpatrick Booker), and one brother (Dexter Booker). She also leaves behind to mourn an uncle (Walter Booker), an aunt (Peggy Gabriel), three generations of cousins, and a multitude of friends who will miss her dearly. |
