Ellon was born the youngest of ten children on August 3, 1924 in Chesterfield, South Carolina. She is the daughter of the late William Henry Smith and Claudia Theresa Perry. She married her high school mate and love of her life, the late James Sinclair, during her senior year at Chesterfield High School in Chesterfield, SC where she graduated. This union raised two children, the late Reverend William E. Sinclair and Betty Jean Sinclair.
Ellon confessed Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at Mount Level Baptist Church in Chesterfield County at an early age. After moving to Charlotte, NC with her family in her later years, she joined St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where she continued to be an active and faithful member of the church. There she served on many boards and auxiliaries and was a member of the Senior Choir. She enjoyed serving others and helping in any way she could. She could be found early each Sunday morning driving her car to pick up a friend, neighbor, senior citizen or anyone who might need a ride to church. This service carried over in her job, as she could be found providing the same type transportation to co-workers who needed transportation to work and back home. It was not uncommon to see her delivering meals to the disabled and senior citizens daily through the Meals on Wheels Program. God enabled her to be sensitive to the needs of others and had given her a giving spirit.
Ellon enjoyed working as a presser for the Charlotte Cleaners until her retirement. She was a faithful member of the Pilgrim Chapter # 244, Order of the Eastern Star of Wadesboro, NC. She was devoted to and loved her Chapter.
When Ellon suffered a stroke in 2009 she was placed in the Golden Living Nursing Home in Charlotte, NC where she resided until March 12, 2015. At that time she was transferred to the River point Crest Nursing home in New Bern, where she could be closer to her daughter-in -law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
