Funeral service will be held Thursday September 8 ,2016 at Moores Sanctuary AME Zion Church. 4101 Morris Field Dr. Charlotte,NC 28208.Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and the service will follow at 2:00 pm. Brother James Lee Granderson
Bro. James Lee Granderson was born to the union of the late Roosevelt and Jessie Lue Granderson, Nov.12, 1947 in Waco Texas.
James confessed Christ at an early age and joined St. James United Methodist Church, Temple, Texas, and later became a member of St. Luke A.M.E Zion, Grand Rapids, MI, where he was a preachers steward under the late Rev. H.V. Hutcherson, and Rev. Gwendolyn Strickland.
Upon moving to Charlotte, North Carolina he united with Moore’s Sanctuary A.M.E Zion Church, Rev. John I. Jackson and Rev. Dr. Raymon Hunt, where he served as a preachers Steward and Sunday School teacher. James was also apart of the Spiritual links and Senior Ministry.
James was a faithful servant, helping in any capacity to meet the needs of his community and church assisting where needed.
Bro. James Lee Granderson was united in holy matrimony to Rev. Lucy Malinda Bynum Granderson. To this union two sons were born. Nicholas James Granderson and Larrin Jermaine Granderson, and daughter Lucy Shannon Granderson.
James graduated from Dunbar High School in Temple, Texas, and attended Prairie View A&M University for two years.
James was a dedicated and model employee and became a Dairy Foremen at Country Fresh Dairy in Refrigerant and Ice cream Production, where he retired. Upon retiring from Country Fresh Dairy in Michigan, James worked for the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system as a bus driver, he was also employed by the Charlotte Douglas Airport and the Charlotte Day Learning Center as a bus driver.
James was a volunteer little league Baseball and Football coach in which he found very much joy and gratification in helping young people realize their ability and potential. He has proudly mentored and shaped hundreds of young men into being exceptional athletes and even better students and role models within their communities. An avid sports fan his favorite teams were the Michigan Wolverines, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Lakers and he adopted the Carolina Panthers after moving to Charlotte.
Bro. Granderson was a man of great patience, integrity, honesty, compassion, understanding, strong faith, big-hearted, affectionate, nurturing, dependable and loving of his wife and children and church families.
James departed this life to be with his eternal Father on Friday Sept 2, 2016, at Northeast Medical Center, Concord, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt and Jessie Lue Granderson; brother Rufus; sisters Elner Mason, Lee Anna Houston, and Ruth Ann Riggins.
James leaves to cherish many memories: his wife of 44 years Lucy Malinda, two loving sons, Nicholas James (Deja) of white Plains, New York, Larrin Jermaine (Audrey) and Lucy Shannon of Charlotte, North Carolina; four sisters: Rosie DALLAS of Denver Colorado: Shirley Granderson, Temple, Texas; Jessie Louise (Willie) Hall and Dorothy (Samuel) Jenkins of Temple, Texas; Aunt Verta Rae Shelby, Marlin, Texas, Uncle Billy C. Gillon, Temple Texas; Brothers Leroy (Liza) Austin Texas; Brothers and sisters in laws: Ben (Evelyn) Bynum; Augusta Georgia; Rev. Hoyt (Dorothy) Bynum Sr. Fort Payne Alabama; Rev. Albert(Bonita) Bynum Gadsden, Alabama, Bettye Battle, Charlotte, Rachel (George) Hall of Charlotte, N,C; Myrna (Rufus) Granderson of Grand Rapids, MI. Five Grandchildren Nicholas Mekai, Lauren Simone, Christian James, Morgan Dominic, Nakoa Isaiah Amir.
