Kenneth D. Moore

Mr. Kenneth D. Moore , 78  of  Charlotte, NC. passed away May 19, 2016  at  Novant  Health  Presbyterian  Medical  Center Charlotte. Funeral  service  will  be  held Friday May 27,2016 at St.Paul Presbyterian Church 7400 Robinson Church Rd. Charlotte, NC 28215. Visitation will  begin at 12:00 pm and the service will follow at 1:00 pm.Military  rites and interment will  take  in the  Church  cemetery.

Kenneth Deequilar Moore was born on December 28, 1937 to the late Edna and Deequilar Moore in Brooklyn, NY.  As a young child, Kenneth was guided in life through the Presbyterian Church.  During his adolescent years in Brooklyn and Queens, N.Y., he considered himself the “KING” of the handball courts of every park; he was an avid player.  Kenneth was educated in the Public Schools of New York City and graduated from Brooklyn Automotives High School.  He was well knowledgeable in repairing automobiles.  After high school Kenneth served four years in the United States Air Force, his duty was protecting the base as a police-officer.   After thirty five years of dedicated service, he retired from the United States Postal Service.

As an active member of St. Albans Presbyterian Church in Queens, N.Y. he drove the church van every Sunday to pick up the elderly and take them home from church. He also drove the women’s group once a month from Queens to Brooklyn to feed the hungry in a shelter.  He’s been involved in various other activities in the church.

As a child his parents would send him to (Shuffletown) Charlotte, N.C. every summer to his grandparents. His famous words for that was “SLAVE LABOR”.

Kenneth was not only actively involved in his own family’s lives, but served as a mentor to NUMEROUS other children.  He was certified for twenty one years in Queens, N.Y as a track coach and track official.  He also served as the Program Director for the Queens Sprinters Track Club.  Everyone at the track meets knew him.  He was famous for shouting “MOVEEEEE”, loud and clear when his team was running. This would prompt his team to run faster and harder. Kenneth’s hobby was racing homing pigeons. He’s been racing homing pigeons for over forty years. Upon relocating from Queens to Charlotte, he also relocated his homing pigeons. Kenneth trained and raced his pigeons at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Pigeon Club (CMPC) located in Kannapolis where he served as President for over ten years.

Kenneth was an active member in St. Paul Presbyterian Church.  He served as a member of the Gospel and Chancellor Choirs, the Men of Faith Bible study group, the Presbyterian Men, and the Deacon Board.

He is survived by his loving wife Evelyn of forty six years; six children, Aaron (Rosa) (NY), Jeffrey (NY), Shantwane (Grace) (NC), Shavelle (Lynette) (PA), Derrick (Deborah) (VA), and Vinita (NC); sisters, Vera (MA), Leone (Thomas) (SC); brothers, Stanley (NC) and Ernest (Caroline) (GA); and aunts, Ernestine Reid (NY) and Mildred Johnson (IL).  Kenneth leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Deequilar, brothers, DeeQuilar and Bobby, and sisters, Florence, Moira and Juanita.

Kenneth would do anything for anyone if he could.  It was his dream to build an indoor track facility here in Charlotte, N.C.  Kenneth lived by the golden rule “Do for others what you would like them to do for you”, Matthews 7:12. He had a unique personality that enchanted all who knew him, and he is truly loved and missed.
