Mrs. Lizzie Carol Miles Williams, 72, of Charlotte, NC passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Novant Health Main. Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church 1401 N. Allen St. Charlotte, NC 28205. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service will follow at 12:00pm. Interment will be in the Sunset Memory Gardens. 8901 Lawyers Rd. Charlotte, NC 28227.
This served as Lizzie’s motto for life! If you ever walked with her, you know that her miles were endless, tireless, yet so productive. God knew she was tired and her life ended for eternal rest on January 30, 2022.
First 25 Miles: 1949-1974
On Jury 9, 1949, the third child of the Late Nemiah (Jack) and Fannie Miles entered this world in an environment where education, family, and religion were valued They named her Lizzie Carol Miles in honor of her Paternal Grandmother. She was known to accomplish more in one day than is expected. Indeed, she walked or ran many miles in a course of a day. Early in life she displayed a strong faith in God, academic achievement and abundant energy. She accepted Christ at an early age, joined and became an active member of Mount Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in LaGrange, NC.
Lizzie attended Frink High School where she was an honor student and active in many organizations. She was crowned “Miss Frink High” as a member of the 1967 graduating class. Lizzie entered NC A&T State University in Greensboro, NC and earned a BS degree in Home Economics and the title “Roadrunner”. While at A&T, she was a member of Angel Flight, Baptist Student Union and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She was selected the summer of her junior year to participate in Home Extension Trainee through NC State University, Raleigh, NC. Lizzie was fortunate to be one of six students at A&T to participate in an Urban Renewal Project with Rutgers University, Camden, New Jersey as part of her student teaching experience.After teaching three years in Pitt and Catawba County schools, enjoying the role as a helping professional, Lizzie decided to pursue a Master’s of Education degree from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, NC with a concentration in Guidance and Counseling. It was during this journey, on April 1, 1972, Lizzie married her high school sweetheart, Linsten Williams, permanently relocated to Charlotte and joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.
Second 25 Miles: 1974-1999
Lizzie and Linsten were blessed with two awesome sons, Linsten Jermiles (1975) and Lushawn Javon(1978).
Lizzie worked in Union County and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as a School counselor for ten years. After receiving numerous recognitions in the field of counseling, Lizzie re-enrolled at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte and added Supervision (Curriculum Specialist) and Administration Certifications. She retired from CMS Schools after serving as School Counselor and Assistant Principal in 2002. Lizzie accepted a position at the Educational Institute of the NC Blumenthal Performing Arts as School Programs Coordinator and Associate Director of the Education Institute from 2002-2007. In the fall of 2008, Lizzie was called back into the field of education with South Carolina Schools where she worked for five years before retiring again.
Lizzie and her husband, Linsten operated several businesses; Exclusively Yours Hair Design, Inc., Exclusively Ours Gifts and Accessories, Exclusive Service Center and Exclusive Team International, Incorporated DBA Mr. Jim’s Pizza franchise.
Lizzie offered her expertise and leadership skills to organizations and groups, holding offices local, regional and national. She was active in the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Charlotte Chapter, Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated Phi Delta Kappa, Queen City Chapter NC A & T Alumni Association, Charlotte Mecklenburg Chapter Las Amigas Incorporated, William E Robinson Post 7775 VFW, Carolina Belles Red Hat Society, Democratic Women of Mecklenburg County, and Crown Jewels (NC) Chapter The Links Incorporated. Lizzie also served on the Board of Directors of many professional and civic organizations presently serving on the Las Amigas Incorporated Board of Trustee and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church Youth Opportunity University Advisory Board. She was known for her creative ideas and her energetic personality. She could always be counted on to get the job done. She willingly shared information through professional presentations, consultation, mentoring, and service. Lizzie received numerous awards and honors for her service and work in the community and organizations.
Third 25 Miles: 1999-2022
Organizations involvement and volunteering were high on her list of interest. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, meeting people, shopping, and crossword puzzles.
Lizzie’s love of learning led her to enter the doctoral program at Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia. She received the Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership in 2015. At that point she, decided to concentrate on her health issues.
Lizzie enjoyed meeting people and quickly developed many friendly relationships. She Coved being active in organizations, especially if one of their goals was to _provide service in the community. Often, she emerged as the leader or in some leadership role. She had this knack of getting others involved A resourceful person, Lizzie shared her findings with others and was always contacted for information. Lizzie was a positive person, highly motivated; thorough, innovative, and self-driven. She was a wife, mother, entrepreneur, administrator, leader, friend; educator, and a doer always ready to extend a helping hand with a willing heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Linsten and her parents Nemiah (Jack) and Fannie White Miles. She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Linsten Jermiles (Lauren) and Lushawn Javon (Sarata), one brother Roger (Mamie) Miles of LaGrange, NC, two sisters, Annie Miles Jackson of Irvington, NJ, Linda Miles Summers of Kinston, NC. Six grandchildren – Kysten, Kamren, SunSara, Xavier, Sean and Miles, Godchildren – Carmen Graves of Yanceyville, NC and Reginald McAfee, Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., God siblings, Marjorie Fuller and Dr. Wallace Younger of Kinston, NC, four aunts, one uncles, five sisters-in law, two brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
