Herman Peter Scott “Scotty”, son of James Scott and Mollie Gaskill Scott Burnett, was born February 18, 1947 in Los Angeles, California. He departed this life on April 17, 2021.
He attended WS King High School in Morehead City, NC. His work career spanned many years, as he worked in the Labor and Delivery room at Long Island Jewish Hospital and JFK Airport in NYC. Scotty then fulfilled his passion and lifelong dream of driving “big trucks” and did so until retirement.
Herman Peter, at the early age of twelve, was confirmed and accepted Christ at St Stephens AME Zion Church, the family church, in Morehead City, NC.
He married his high school sweet heart Vivian Scott and of this union was born a son Herman Peter Scott Jr. With his second wife of 44 years, Elva Diane Fredricks Scott, who preceded him in death, was born a second son, Steven Anthony Scott. In his later years, Scotty enjoyed life with his best friend and companion, Leslie Wells, who supported and cared for him until his death.
Herman was a fantastic human being who never met a stranger. Although he admittedly could be stubborn and opinionated on occasion, when asked, those who knew him described him as charismatic, charming, loving, caring, fun, and outgoing. He was very compassionate and always giving to those in need. Some would say, “Scotty would give you the shirt off his back”.
Scotty’s love for travel took him around the world with his wife Diane with a special love for cruising. He had a weakness for old black and white Westerns which he sat and watched for hours on end. He was a smooth dancer and was always ready for a good party. He loved being near the ocean and never met a fish he was not ready to catch, fry and eat. But above all else, he loved his family!
He was a model of strong will and sheer determination right up until the end of his journey here on earth. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his sons Herman Peter Scott Jr, of Morehead City NC, and Steven Anthony Scott, of Durham, NC. His older brother, John Clyde Scott of NYC. Grandchildren: Herman Peter Scott III, Daniel Scott, Di’Nesha Josey, Steven Brewton, Nastazha Brewton, Kysani Scott, and Jaylin Scott. Great Grandchildren: Kaison Josey and Carter Josey. Sisters- In-law: Sandra Rutledge and Betty Gaskill. Brother- in-law: Albert Fredericks. Best friend Leslie Wells and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Preceded in death by his parents James Scott and Mollie Gaskill Scott Burnett, wife Elva Diane Scott, and siblings James Alphonso Gaskill, Alva Lee Scott Moore, and Roland D. Scott. |
