Mr. Robert Edward Davis, 73 of Charlotte, NC passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Atrium Health Pineville. Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 6, 2020 at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and the service will follow at 11:00 am. ~~~~~~~~~ Robert Edward Davis, 73, of Charlotte, NC, peacefully departed this earth, Wednesday, October 28, 2020. He is preceded by death by his parents, James & Mae Gladys (Browley) Davis & six siblings, Johnny, Sonny, Vincent, Henry, Juanita, Lynette & Tommy. Robert was born July 6, 1947 in Grand Rapids, MI. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal savior and joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, MI. In 1993, he became a Deacon at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church and served as Chair Deacon until 2008 when he relocated to Charlotte, NC. In Charlotte, he joined Silver Mount Missionary Baptist Church and continued his service in the church by starting the Video Ministry with his wife, Racine. Robert was the videographer until 2018. He graduated from Central High School in 1965 and from Grand Rapids Community College in 1969. Robert was a fierce and competitive athlete during high school. He played football, basketball, & track and field while at Central High School. On April 9, 1977, he married Racine (Austin) Davis, Robert worked for 38 years. His career started in the retail industry with the vast amount of his service in the automobile industry. He retired from General Motors with 37 years of service. Robert dedicated his life caring for his family. He also enjoyed watching sports, and was a huge fan of University of Michigan, “GO BLUE!”, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Boston Celtics. He was also an avid golfer for over 47 years. He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his wife Racine, together for 50 years and married for 43 years, daughter Theresa (Will) Kimber of Greenville, MS, daughter Rhonda Davis of Sacramento, CA, son Kevin (Jen) Austin of Atlanta, GA, son Bill Austin of Indianapolis, IN, daughter Myra (Brian) Jernigan and daughter Porsha Davis, a special niece who he helped to rear, Sherita Austin, all of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Suzette (Lester) Palmer and Lita Scott of Grand Rapids, MI. Also, to carry on his memory are his grandchildren, Kendale & Brittnie Thomas, Will & Tyrese Kimber; Sam & Melody Stovell, Jasmine Davis; Morgan Austin; Alayna, Stacy, Jon, Chris, & Carter Jernigan; Leyla Mamuya and special nieces, Queen & Lordess Austin plus many loving nieces, nephews and extended family & friends.
