Ingrid Lutricia Byrd Massey

Mrs. Ingrid Lutricia Byrd Massey, 71 of Charlotte, NC passed away Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Novant Health Main. Public viewing will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel from 3:00 pm until 4:00pm.Graveside service will take place Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Oaklawn Cemetery,  1615 Oaklawn Ave. Charlotte, NC 28216 at 11:00 am.

Ingrid Lutricia Byrd Massey is the second born child of the late Edward Byrd and the late Eleanor Miller Byrd Burns. She was born on Sunday, June 26, 1949 in Mecklenburg County. Ingrid succumbed to a long term chronic illness on Saturday morning, June 27, 2020 as she surrendered to a peaceful rest from her earthly journey.

Ingrid received her formal education in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. She attended Double Oaks Elementary, Northwest Jr. High and graduated from Harding High School in the class of 1967. She also took classes at CPCC and workshops conducted by CMS.

Ingrid was married to Ronald “Slim” Massey. They never had any children and marriage ended in divorce. She loved working with children as a daycare teacher. She was also employed by Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools at Metro School as a teaching assistant and bus monitor for students with special needs. She really enjoyed servicing this special population until her health issues forced her to retire early.

Ingrid spent her leisure time with great pleasure, cooking, on Facebook sharing her political views and concerns, planting flowers, shopping on QVC and HSN, watching British movies, reality shows like 48 Hours, Dateline, law and criminal based tv shows and studying the Bible. But her favorite pastime was drawing, oil painting and improving her artistic skills.

During her early childhood through high school, Ingrid attended Charlotte Berean SDA Church. After returning from Pennsylvania, Ingrid renewed her commitment to God. She was baptized on August 27, 2011 as a member of NESDA Church by Pastor Ezra Mendinghall. She attended faithfully until her health declined.

Ingrid transitioned peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2020. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor Burns, father Edward Byrd , infant brother, step-father, Franklyn Burns, sister Erlene Byrd Williams and uncle Joseph Byrd.

Ingrid leaves to mourn and cherish her memories; children: Dominic Byrd (Charlotte), Anitta C. Byrd (GA); grandchildren: Adrienne Simone Byrd (Charlotte), Michael A. Little (Statesville), sisters: Quida C. Byrd (CA), Anita E. Byrd (Charlotte), a host of cousins: Deborah M. Morris (raised like a sister by Eleanor M. Byrd as legal guardian (Charlotte), Emma Sturdivant, Gregory Sturdivant, Judy Miller, Elizabeth Lynch, Louise Foster Chambers, Barnes Miller Family, Byrd Family (Charlotte), Trudy M. Green (MD), aunts: Geraldine B. Campbell, Candice B. Hill (Charlotte), Helen M. Boulder (NY), Dorothy M. Campbell (Washington, DC) and step mother Ollie Byrd.
