I am saddened to hear this news and to hear it when I did. I lost touch with Veronica after a while, but it didn't stop me from bragging about knowing a wonderful and prominent doctor who studied at ECU and traveled to Arizona for her practice. She and I touched base every once in a while and promised to catch up whenever we could. Life happened, I was "momming", divorcing, and pursuing higher education in multiple graduate programs, and did not prioritize catching up with her. I totally regret that now. Life should never put a wedge in our connections, but should always draw us closer. We knew each other through our brothers, who were close friends as far back as elementary school. I only had the pleasure of attending school with Veronica in her final year at our high school, my first year. She was so smart. We were all impressed and knew she would go on to do great things. And that she did. When she entered med school. I was on my way out of undergrad. She impressed me. How she moved, how she blazed trails, how she "role modeled". She was the coolest nerd. That is what stands out the most fondly about her. She was a role model to me. I will miss you, Veronica. I hope you know how proud you made me.
