Mr.Thomas McClane Spaulding ,81 of Charlotte passed away Friday, April 17, 2020 at The Citadel of Myers Park Nursing and Rehab. Center Charlotte. Memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Private Graveside service will be at the Mitchell`s Field Family Cemetery in Clarkton,NC.
Thomas “Tommy” McClane Spaulding was the oldest son of five children born to Lloyd Spaulding and Thelma Moore Spaulding in Clarkton, NC. He peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, April 17, 2020 at 11:20 pm at the Citadel at Myers Park Nursing Center, 300 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Leon Spaulding.
Mr. Spaulding was born September 8, 1938 in Clarkton, North Carolina, and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Clarkton, NC. He always had a love for cars, tractors, and big trucks at an early age. He was employed with several trucking companies working as a truck driver for many years and then moved to the position of terminal manager. After retiring from the trucking business, he ventured into driving charter buses and that brought him great joy. As time passed, he desired to have his own bus company and became the owner and operator of Spaulding Charters and Tours, Inc and served the Charlotte area over 15 years. He was known by many as the man that could drive a bus and he loved taking people on trips.
Mr. Spaulding was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC. He was a dedicated and loyal member until his health declined and had to be admitted to a skilled nursing facility. He was a member of the Silver Mount Prince Hall Masons.
Mr. Spaulding was popularly known for his great sense of humor who loved people. He loved to talk, eat, and fellowship with people and had a generous heart. He never met a stranger because he would make you talk whether you wanted to or not. If you asked him how he was doing, he would always say,” I am doing the best I can.” He touched many lives and his legacy will live on through the seeds he has sown and the memories of him that will be in our hearts forever. He loved all his family members.
Mr. Spaulding leaves to mourn and cherish fond memories his wife of 31 years, Beatrice L. Spaulding of the home; daughter, Angela Spaulding of Charlotte, NC; sons Bradley Osborne, Charlotte, NC and Rev Kevin Lytle (Selma) of Mooresville, NC; grandchildren, Malachi Osborne (Tom’s Little Buddy) of the home, Devron Spaulding, Kassidy Spaulding, Daquan Lytle, Damonta Lytle, and Saint Chapman of Charlotte, NC; and Kevin Lytle, Jr, of Mooresville, NC and four great-grandchildren; brother, Tony Spaulding (Sandra) of Tabor City, NC; two sisters, Laverne S. Hill of Hampton, VA and Saundra S. Rainey, Smithfield, VA; aunts, Rachael M. Lennon of Silver Spring, MD, Mary Moore of Baltimore, MD and Bea Moore of New Jersey and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Special friend/daughter, Tiffany Houze-Anderson; grand goddaughter, Sasha Gillespie; and friend/sister, Barbara W. Queen all of Charlotte, NC; and childhood friend/brother, Bobby Davis of High Point, NC.
