Mr. Shelton Porterfield Black, Jr. 70, of Charlotte, NC. passed away Wednesday April 11, 2018 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House Aldersgate. Funeral service will be held Monday April 16, 2018 at Rock Hill AME Zion Church 2723 W. Lawyers Rd. Indian Trail, NC 28079. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. Military rites and Interment will take place at Sunset Memory Gardens.   Shelton (Rabbit) Porterfield Black, Jr., the son of the late Shelton P. Black, Sr., and Eunice Black, was welcomed home to be with the Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, April 11, 2018. Shelton was born January 8, 1948.

Shelton, a native of Cabarrus County, graduated from Logan High School in Concord, NC. After graduation, he enlisted into the United States Army serving four years. During this time, he received the following awards: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Companion Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Upon returning home he was employed by several Trucking Companies including Overnight, Ward Trucking and others.

He was united in matrimony to the late Mary Kiser Black and to this union two sons were born.

Shelton joined Rock Hill AME Zion Church in Indian Trail, NC at an early age and served on the Board of Trustees, Usher Board, Lay Council and Booster Club. He was especially committed to Rock Hill Annual Church Barbecue and looked forward to working from
“sun-up to sun-down”.

Shelton was preceded in death by his brother Dennis Wayne Black of New Jersey.

He leaves to cherish his memories two sons: Shelton Porterfield Black III, Amelia, OH, and Walter Black, Monroe, NC; two daughters: Natasha Wilson (Charles), and Cassandra Marsh (Rev. Michael Marsh) both of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Janice Black and one brother David Black (Angie) both of Charlotte, NC and a host of other loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
