Service Announcements

Mr. Sheldon Gerald McKenzie 49, of Waxhaw, NC. passed away Friday, September 7,2018 at Novant Health- Matthews. Funeral service will be held Friday, September 14,2018 at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. Interment will be in York Memorial Park.

Sheldon Gerald McKenzie, “Shel”, 49, was born in Yonkers, New York.  He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers, New York.  Sheldon attended St. Pauls College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, and SUNY at Old Westbury, New York.  Sheldon loved Manhattan and knew great restaurants and how to travel around New York City well.  Sheldon moved to Waxhaw, North Carolina to be with his Father, Mother, Son, and other family members. On September 7, 2018, Friday after noon at 1:44 p.m., Sheldon transitioned from his earthly home.  He was the second of two sons born of Charles and Ethelene McKenzie. Sheldon loved reading, Marvel movies and comic books, and his New York Knicks.  Sheldon was such an outgoing spirit who once said, “I can have fun in a McDonald’s parking lot”.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles William McKenzie, Jr.

Sheldon is survived by Father and Mother, Charles and Ethelene McKenzie, Waxhaw, North Carolina; one son, Brandon Elijah Thompson, Waxhaw, North Carolina; one daughter, Aisha Allen, Virginia Beach, Virginia; a granddaughter, T’Nyiah Alexander, Virginia Beach, Virginia; a special friend, Joyce Belk Hudson, Mineral Springs, North Carolina; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
