Interment will be in the Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.

Rosetta Vaughn Dinkins Clemons transitioned peacefully to her Heavenly home on October 16, 2017, surrounded by her family at Carrington Place, Matthews, NC.

She was born on August 10, 1941 to the late Calvin Creswell and Sanola Wallace Vaughn in Mecklenburg County.

She graduated from J. H. Gunn High School with honors. She continued her education at Johnson C. Smith University, graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduation, her teaching career began in Abbeville, SC. She decided that she wanted to be closer to home, and began teaching in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, where she retired in June of 1995.

At an early age, she became a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church.  After her marriage to Sam Henry “Sonny” Dinkins, Jr., she moved her membership to Weeping Willow A.M.E. Zion Church. Rosetta was the church clerk for many years. She served faithfully on the Usher Board, Sanctuary Choir, and Missionary Society until her health failed.

Even though her health failed early in life, Rosetta didn’t care to attend “Pity Parties”. She enjoyed traveling, reading novels, and luncheons with her co-workers. She was a life long member of the Wallace-Johnson Reunion for 65 years. She also enjoyed watching basketball and was extremely proud that her son and grandson went on to play on a professional level.

She was a very kind, quiet and loving mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her second husband Henry C. Clemons, Jr., and a great-granddaughter Mahagany R. Farmer.

She leaves to cherish her loving family members: one son Byron S. Dinkins (Elisa); three daughters, Janice R. Vaughn of Raleigh, NC, Beverly E. Dinkins of the home, Barbara D. Phillips (Carlton, Sr.) of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Myrtle V. Polk; one special niece, Jenica C. Polk, niece and nephew Dorothy L. Evans and Larry Long; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy D. Lawrence, Thomasena D. Clay, and Julia M. Phillips; grandchildren, Desmond, Hillary, Kelvin (Courtney),  Tristan, Jordan, and Carlton Jr. “C.J.”; 5 great-grandchildren, Velaria, Nehemiah, Anya Simone, Maiyah, and Micah . A special friend to the end, Mrs. Janet Springs, and a host of cousins and friends.
