It is with great sadness that I try to write this tribute to one that I loved dearly first, as my Mentor, Friend, Great leader who always lead by example! he did not have a "unkind word to say about anybody that I could think of, even if they offend him in some way! I really learned all about how he was for those eight years he served as Pastor of Hanes Memorial C.M.E. Church located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. We were together more "spiritually" then we have ever been before and since that time since he has been gone! My fondest memories of him was when my father died 19 years ago, and was a member of the A.M.E. Church. he came to the house and offered his help for anything he or Hanes could do because of me, Frank McKissick! He came to the funeral and gave the "prayer of comfort" to the family . Another time 14 years later My Mother past, who was not a member of Hanes and I ask him would like doing a joint "Circle of Life" Memorial Service with Pastor Robert J. Williams of Williams Memorial C.M.E. church located in High Point North Carolina! Why because my mother requested that at her death make sure that who ever did the Memorial Service "knew her" and something about her! These two Pastors knew her quite well and both did an excellent job Rev. MedCalf Jr. did the official ' Circle of Life" Memorial Celebration part and I will never forget what his subject was! That subject was: HAVE YOU PUNCHED YOUR TICKET? I will never forget it or him! Yes he has punched his ticket and and life worth given and well served is his lasting legacy! Hopefully there will be another one like him, but I have doubts of it being in our life time. I just turned 73 this Month and Pastor Williams just obeserved his 50th Pastorial Anniversary two months ago, so we are both in the same CLUB! I love him, I miss him! There is a void where your feet have been! You rebuilt a new church for Parkwood Institutional C.M.E Church for members to worship in and that is a standing memorial of your leadership and dedication! God called you home because he need someone to serve as a role model to continue to rally the troops in heaven as only Rev MedCalf can! God speed and Peace!
