Mrs. Myrtle Deree Washington Houston 96,of Charlotte, NC. passed away Sunday July 8, 2018 at Novant Health Main.Funeral service will be held Thursday July 12,2018 at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm.

Mrs. Myrtle “Mert” Deree Washington Houston, daughter of the late Theodore Washington and Mrs. Mildred Wallace, was born December 4, 1920 in Charlotte, North Carolina. She departed this life on Sunday, July 8, 2018. She was the wife of the late Charlton “Pat” Houston.

Mrs. Houston was a graduate of Second Ward High School, Charlotte, North Carolina. She retired from LaMarick Beauty Shop in September 1980 after 44 years.

At on early age she connected herself with Grace A.M.E. Zion Church, where she served as an usher. Later she joined Greenville Memorial A.M.E. Zion.

Mrs. Houston’s deep devotions for family and friends can not be over emphasized, for them she always displayed a feeling of duty and responsibility despite her affliction and finally her sense of fairplay, justice and her spirit of perseverance; was respected by all with whom she was acquainted.

She leaves to cherish her memories; son, Gregory “Rickey” Houston; daughter Rosalind “Michelle” Houston of Charlotte, NC; one grandson Antoine B. Alexander; two granddaughters, Keona Stiff and Brittany P. Houston all of Charlotte, NC; five great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
