Millard Bertram Cooper was born in St Augustine, Florida on January 11, 1940 to Millard and Annie Lee Cooper. His parents preceeded him in death. At the age of 9 years old Millard affectionately known as “”Miller” moved to with his parents and his brother Sidney to Cheraw, South Carolina.
He attended school in Cheraw and at the age of 18 he left Cheraw to find work, he returned to Cheraw years later and he then met and married Nora Lee Ford. After their marriage ended he traveled to various cities as he worked construction. He settled in Charlotte, North Carolina and continued to work in the field that he loved.
He met and developed a companionship with Minnie Bass and he counted Debra and Denise as his step-daughters. Minnie preceeded Miller in death on January 14, 1999.
During his time in Charlotte, Miller joined Clinton Presbyterian Church. During his weekly bus rides to church Miller was enjoyed stopping by one of his favorite eateries…Bojangles on his way home.
As his health declined Miller entered Hunterwood Nursing home and then finally Avante Nursing home where he received reliable and compassionate care. Over the last 15 years Miller enjoyed visits from family and friends and he especially appreciated his pastor and church family members who would bring him cards, gifts, dinners from Chicken Box and on occasion they would take him to Sunday morning service. This past year, he was thrilled to attend the Men’s Day Service where he was treated with such great special attention.
The one outstanding trait Miller possessed was his sense of humor. No matter the challenges his body endured, he never lost his sweet demeanor and jovial take on life. He could re-tell a story with pitch perfect comedic timing.
During the last few years Miller grew closer to the Lord as his brother Sidney lead him through prayer to rededicate his life to Christ.
On August 2, 2017 after a long and debilitating illness, Miller entered into his eternal peace.
He is survived by his loving brother Sidney Cooper and his wife Loretta. Nephews Ronald (deceased) Anthony and Timothy Cooper, niece Stefanie Cooper. Stepdaughters Debra Counts her husband George, their son Miles and their daughter Zoe) Denise Roberts as well as a host of cousins and many friends.
