Michael Hoke was born on October 6, 1959 in Charlotte, NC. He was born to the late Robert and Mary Saunders Hoke. He entered eternal rest on December 3, 2020 after a long battle with colon cancer.

Michael received his education in the Charlotte Mecklenburg school system and was a 1977 graduate of Garinger High School.

Michael came from a family of Carolina Tarheels enthusiasts. He would often get into heated debates with rival Duke fans, never backing down that Carolina is the superior team.

In his youth, he was described as the best athlete in the family. In the 1970’s he was a quarterback for the youth football league in a time when blacks were not in that position.

At a young age he joined and was baptized at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC and later in life affirmed his salvation in Christ!

Michael was quiet and considered shy but once approached, “Bay Bay” (as he was affectionately called by his family) had a heart of gold. He understood politics and social issues very well and did not mince words when it came to debating.

He was a member of the United States Marine Corps reserve having served from 1977 to 1983 and received an honorable discharge.

Michael was employed with American Airlines for 16 years until his health declined. He was well liked by his teammates.

He leaves to cherish what he considers to be his greatest accomplishment, his only son, Jordan Michael Bridges of Charlotte, NC; two brothers Eric Hoke of Kissimmee, FL and Harold Hoke(Kimberly) of Durham, NC. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Michael is preceded in death by two brothers, Roderick “Buddy” Hoke and John “Dee Dee” Hoke.
