Mattie received her early education through Cooper’s Academy in Lake City, SC and graduated High School in Florence, SC and continued her education by attending cosmetology school in Sumter, SC. Mattie accepted Christ as her Savior with Gethsemane A.M.E. Zion Church in Charlotte, NC, under the Reverend Frank M. Allen. She served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord. In her leisure, she enjoyed traveling, singing on all the church choirs, cooking in the kitchen preparing dinners for church events, wedding receptions and other various celebrations at surrounding churches over the years with her sister Juanita Cooper and sisters in Christ; Rebecca Sullivan, Dorothy Norman and Lula Watson.
