Mary Elizabeth Miller, affectionately known as “Mary Beth”, was born April 27, 1947, to the late Bruce and Elizabeth B. Miller in Concord, NC. She was the second child of four girls born to this family. Mary passed away suddenly Thursday, September 15, 2022. at Atrium Health in Monroe, NC.

Mary accepted Christ and joined Rock Hill AME Zion Church at the age of 10 and was baptized at the age 12. A lifetime member, Mary served in many capacities at church, including the Board of Stewards, Finance Committee, Deaconess Board, Women’s Home & Overseas Missionary Society (WHO&MS), Usher Board, Christian Education Department, Lay Council and Joy Club Treasurer. She also served musically by singing with the Pilgrim Light Chorus and the Garden Calvary Choir. At an early age, she began visiting the sick-and-shut-in with our mother, Elizabeth. This planted a seed of giving to others within Mary and she developed a giving heart and spirit. With that same spirit of giving, she was a caregiver for our mom for many years before her passing.

Mary was educated in the Mecklenburg and Union County school systems. In 1965, she graduated from Western Union High School. School activities included cheerleading, singing in the Glee Club, and driving school bus # 97. She also was a member of the Western Union School Alumni Association. Mary was also a great outfielder for the Dodge City Softball team. After graduation, she attended Johnson C. Smith University for two years.

Mary was employed for forty years at Snyder’s-Lance, Inc., formerly known as Lance Products. While employed, she would often bless family, friends, and others with Lance crackers. After retirement, she began to fulfill her passion at Hospice of Union County and later as a CNA at Woodridge Assisted Living in Monroe, NC until her passing.

Mary loved traveling with her sisters on yearly vacations and visiting many points of interest in the USA, the Caribbean, and Mexico. Her most recent and favorite excursion was to Canada with her family. Other favorites include her favorite flower, a Peony, and her favorite color, Navy blue. Mary had a wonderful sense of humor that brought so much laughter to her family and friends. Our dear “Mary Beth” will forever be remembered and greatly missed.

Left to cherish her memories are her beloved son, Antonio Lawrence Miller of the home; three sisters: Monadell Robinson of Dolton, Ill, Ruth M. Hood (Bobby) of Matthews, NC, and June Miller of Mint Hill, NC; three nephews: Keith Robinson, Brian Robinson, Robert Desmond Hood; great nephews: Marcus, Brian Jr., Keith Jr.; two great nieces: Chauntrice Robinson and Candace Robinson; three great-great nieces: Danielle Hood, Dominique Hood, and Ariel Robinson; two aunts: Mable Byrum and Hallie Black; one uncle, Nathan Black; several cousins and relatives; one devoted friend, Sandra Springs; two god-daughters: Tiffany Springs-Barnette and Tameka Springs-Walker.
