MARY ELIZABETH WHITTEN JONES

Sunrise 2/23/27 –  Sunset 5/28/18

On Monday, May 28, 2018, Mary W. Jones passed away after a long illness.  She was 91 years old and surrounded by family as she was called home to be with The Lord.  Mary will be forever remembered by her children, Dianna Saunders, William Whitten (Marie), Annette Haskell and Corrine Wiggins, nine grandchildren April Gales, Adrian Lanett Harper, Moses Harper Jr. (Shonda),Erika (Herman), Matthew, Jameka, Tiffany, Ebony, William (Tameka), and Wilbert Jr. (Heather), six great grandchildren, Andreka, Roscoe, Taraji, Corinthian, Kin (AJ), Ashleigh  and one great-great grandchild Montario Jr. (KJ), two sisters Beatrice Long (Wilbert), Betty Wright, and a sister in law Daisy Pearson.  Mary will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents Estelle Lynch and Minus Whitten Sr., five brothers and one sister, and most recently, two of her own children, Lavonde and Wilbert Whitten, Sr.

Mary was dedicated to her church and community. She was a faithful servant over all the Lord gave her hands to do.  Before her illness, she was very active with a number of church auxiliaries and organizations.  She was a community activist working for those in need, and always ready to feed someone.  Her heart was to encourage, mentor, and lead people to Christ.  She showed us how to live a life full of Strong Faith, being soft spoken and peaceful, she knew that God was in control and all we had to do was have Faith and Trust in God, and all would be fine.

The memories of “Ms. Jones, Mother Jones, Sister, Mary J. and any of the other names we called her are priceless.  Hold on to the funny ones, the life changing ones, the “you had to be there” ones, or any of the others, that is what she would want and would tell you to do during these difficult times.  She loved us unconditionally and only wanted us to love and pray for each other.  Amen.
