Service Announcements

Mrs. Marie Byrum Maxwell 97 of Charlotte. passed away October 20, 2016 at her residence. Memorial service will be held Wednesday October 26, 2016 at Rock Hill AME Zion Church, 2723 Lawyers Rd.Indian Trail,NC. 28079. Visitation will begin at 11:30 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. Marie was born November 2, 1918,daughter to the Lester and Annie Byrum. After enjoying a full life, Marie was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Thursday October 20, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Allee, and five brothers, Dowd, Hoyt, L.P., Clarence and Lloyd.

At an early age Marie became a member of Rock Hill AME Zoin Church where she remained a faithful member until her death. She was employed with Charlotte Day Nursery where she worked for 22 years until the business closed. After this employment ended, she relocated her mother, Annie and her nephew, Marvin to live with her and she became their caregiver and guardian respectively.

Marie loved yard beautification, plants and flowers and having a vegetable garden in her backyard; which she tended up until 2 years ago. She also loved baking and was known for her pound cakes. She had to keep her cake dish full.In her most recent years;she enjoyed sitting on her front porch,eating her meals and chatting with neighbors.

With fond memories she leaves to celebrate her life two nieces: Valarie Byrum Carothers and Julie Byrum Truesdale; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and Rock Hill Church family and Grier Heights neighbors.
