Life Legacy
Mrs. Marcille Kilgore Griffin was the third of four children of Hattie and John Gilmore of York, South Carolina. She was born on February 6, 1921, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Marcille departed this earth on March 25, 2018, at Huntersville Oaks, in Huntersville, North Carolina surround by her loving family. She was raised by her aunt, Lillie Green whom she adored and modeled her life after. “Cille” as she was called took care of her aunt as long as she could until she passed away at the age of 94 while also residing at Huntersville Oaks. For over 50 years Mrs. Griffin was a dedicated member of Reeder Memorial Baptist Church, formerly known as Gethsemane Baptist Church.
She understood that education was the key to financial freedom; which is why she returned to Central Piedmont Community College at the young age of 70 to earn her educational certificate and insisted that all of her children were highly educated.
She had a love for education, beauty and humor. She had high standards for cleanliness, liked companionship, however when she got mad, you had better leave her alone because she’d rage just like a river. She had an appreciation for a good pair of shoes, and regarded them as an intimate extension of the body and said they shaped attitudes, aesthetics, and social status. She was sun and rain, fire and ice but she was so very nice. She was every woman that we’ve ever known.
heShe walked in beauty, like the night, cloudless climes and starry skies; and all that’s best of dark and bright was set in her garden to everyone’s delight. She was a natural comedian that could find humor in any situation and used her quick tongue to make every frown turn into a smile. Her home was dustless, every item in place. |
As an original resident of University Park, she added and appreciated the beauty of her property. Many had the pleasure of her company from the expansive view from her front porch centered on LaSalle Street. Forever cherishing her life, she leaves a legacy of wonderful memories, words of wisdom, and many life lessons to her three loving and dedicated daughters: Hazeline Blocker, Eden, North Carolina, Bernita Mumford, Durham, North Carolina and Robbin Kilgore-Roddey (Gregory), Huntersville, North Carolina, eight grandchildren, Patricia Diane Martin (Gerald), Charlotte, North Carolina, Edward Eugene Moore (Anja), Charlotte, North Carolina, Tiffany Funderburk, Eden, North Carolina, Akeem Shakur, Charlotte, North Carolina, James Kenneth Ervin Jr, New Jersey, Jamilah Washington (Issac), Atlanta, Georgia, Anthony Kilgore Parker, Lynchburg, Virginia, Gregory Roddey, Huntersville, North Carolina, twelve great grand-children and four great-great grandchildren and a host of friends. |
