Lecora Lucas Mobley passed away peacefully at her home on the evening of March 28, 2021. Born December 28, 1925 to the late Annie Lou Brandon and Wamon Hall, Lecora was reared by her maternal grandparents, Lewis and Memmie Lucas in Bullock County, Alabama. She had one sister, Earlene, who predeceased her. She completed high school in Birmingham and attended Alabama Teachers College, now Alabama State University. She later matriculated at Tuskegee Institute where she completed a Master of Education.
Before retiring in 1988, Lecora worked in Bullock County, AL as a teacher and supervisor and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System as an English teacher. After she retired, she served as a consultant assisting students with their writing and composition skills. She served as a resource to many and was often consulted by family and friends for her expertise.
Lecora was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKA), the National Educators Association (NEA), and the North Carolina and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Retired School Personnel Organizations. She was also a member of the Park Church. Over the years, her community service included helping aspiring high school students prepare for standardized tests and college.
Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, William C. Mobley, Lecora leaves to honor her memory, one daughter, Emilye Mobley; a brother-in-law, John G, Mobley, Sr. (Winnsboro, SC); and sisters-in-law, Barbara Mobley (Winnsboro, SC) and Mary Mobley (Los Angeles, CA). She also leaves a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and embraced children and grandchildren who will miss her and cherish her memory.
SERVICE DETAILS
Private Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 3,2021 at Sharon Memorial Park at 11:00 am. A walk through viewing will take place on Friday, April 2,2021 at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel from 5:00 pm- 6:30 pm
