Just heard about the passing of Mr. Alexander; a true George Bailey. I first met Mr. A, as we all knew him at Piedmont Middle School approximately 50 years ago. I didn’t have him as a teacher but a friend of mine, who was a grade ahead of me and happened to have Mr. A for algebra in his last period in the classroom next to my math teacher. We became very acquainted with each other in the years following. We both moved to Albemarle Road Middle School and when we found each other it was like old friends meeting again. Although I didn’t have him for algebra we would speak about my progress and each other’s personal life. Little did I know at the time that my wife who I would marry some 12 years later would have Mr. A for algebra while at Albemarle Rd Middle. Once I went to high school I would only bump into him when I would walk onto campus after classes and see him. We loss touch until he came to work at Ellman’s on Albemarle Rd. We laughed on how small the world was that we keep running into each other. It was also at Ellman’s that I met my future wife; we received Mr. A’s approval which meant a lot to us. He even attended our wedding. We again loss contact until a few years later when a friend who had Mr. A at Albemarle Rd and also worked at Ellman’s advised me that Mr. A was at Randolph Middle School so I made a special trip to catch up. He was that type of person that makes a positive impression in your life. He not only leaves behind a wonderful family, tons of friends and former students who will truly miss him but also the tremendous positive impact he has left on us all. Sincere condolences to the entire Alexander family.

Ken Alexander was a dear friend and a wonderful, exceptional man and Educator. I met Ken (Mr. Alexander) approximately 30 years ago at Service Merchandise on East Independence Boulevard. He and I worked together in the Jewelry Department. Everyone at Service Merchandise respected and loved him. He was a full time Math teacher at CMS. We had many fun times and laughs while working at Service Merchandise. I asked him if he did income taxes and he said no, not for friends but I know a CPA I can recommend. He did and they did my income taxes for many years and I remain a friend to the family. I had not seen or talked to Mr. Alexander for a number of years. Fortunately, I reunited with him at Randolph Middle School, he as a substitute Math teacher and I started subbing as a front office secretary. I was excited to see him again after many years. Two days before Mr. Alexander went to the hospital, I chatted with him at RMS. That will always be memorable for me. I extend heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Alexander, children, family and friends. Sleep easy my friend. You made an indelible mark as a friend, Educator an an outstanding person. As the scriptures states, the work you have done speaks for you. Your legacy lives on. Levones

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. A for many years at Albemarle Road Middle. He was there in my first year of teaching, 23 years ago! He was smart, absolutely hilarious, a great coworker and like family to me. We were math nerds and we clicked immediately even though he was 30 years my elder. I heard so many stories about family and the history of Charlotte especially JH Gunn. He was a walking history book. He walked to his own beat and didn’t mind a Little Rock in the boat as long as it served the greater good. All I can remember is good times. I have been inspired by Mr. A and the group of ladies that worked with him. I call them my aunts. So, rightfully, I could call him uncle Kenneth. Thank you for your friendship, mentorship, character, love, care, and service to our public education system. May the work you have done speak for you. May your faith in God live on. Rest well until God raptures his church. This isn’t good bye but see you later. Love you

Kenneth was a friend to Henderson Grove Presby Church in Mint Hill, it was always a pleasure when he would visit our church. Such a stellar guy and he will be missed not only by Henderson Grove but the JH Gunn school family where he and his wife were well know and loved. Kenneth will be missed and is so loved!
