Obituary
Kenneth Antwine. went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Huntersville Health & Rehabilitation Center in Huntersville, North Carolina after a courageous yet victorious battle with cancer. For we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Kenny was born on April 14, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Henry and Winnie Antwine. He is preceded into eternity by his parents, Henry and Winnie Antwine and his brother, Henry Antwine, Jr.
Kenny lived in Newark, New Jersey as a child and attended Central High School. He worked as a diesel mechanic for more than 40 years with General Motors Corporation (GMC). On December 31, 1971, Kenny married his loving wife, Gloria Joyner. Kenny and Gloria blended their family of five beautiful daughters.
Kenny and Gloria moved from Irvington, New Jersey to Huntersville, North Carolina in 2003. They attended Mowing Glade AME Zion Church in Charlotte, North Carolina until his health began to decline.
Kenny, known for his kind and giving heart and great sense of humor, was loved unconditionally by many. He was an avid inventor and creator of his patented grill he lovingly called “The Gloria”. He lived life to the fullest and with great joy. He always had a smile on his face and you would often hear him whistling happily as he went about his day.
Kenny was indeed a family man. He loved all kinds of music, cooking homemade popcorn and making special pancake breakfasts for his girls, entertaining in his home with his wife Gloria, and cooking on his barbeque grill. He especially enjoyed quality time spent with his family and no matter what, he never missed being present at any family occasion. He was a proud man and a great provider and protector for his family. He became a father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was a sincere friend to many and a loving husband, uncle, cousin, godfather, brother and father-in-law. Anything that was important to his family was important to him. One of his favorite sayings was, “As long as you have family, you can get through anything!”
One of Kenny’s greatest pleasures in life was his wife Gloria (who he affectionally called “Red”) and “His Girls”, Lynn (Marguerite), Michelle, Reeny (Maureen), Kim and Gwen; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They could count on lots of hugs, kisses and good food at grandpop and grandma’s house. They cherished their love, laughter and homemade cooking.
Kenny is survived by his five daughters and their spouses, Lynn/Marguerite (David), Michelle, Reeny/Maureen (Warner), Gwen, Kim (Harry); nine grandchildren and their spouses, Nafeesah (Anthony), Qaadir (Jessi), Glenelle, Whitney, Khalil (Tara), Jaren (D’Andra), David, Jeremiah and DiAndre; fourteen great-grandchildren, Dylan, Zander, Khalia, Kiara, Gia, Kendall, Kyree, Aneesah, Eli, Kembreyana, Michael, DiAndre Jr., Mason and Carter; two godsons, Kenny and Michael; two loving cousins, Juanita and Judy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
