A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Juanita Ramsey Davidson passed from this earth the night of August 13, 2017.  She had lived in Charlotte, North Carolina, since her marriage to her husband, the late Mack L. Davidson, Jr., in 1959.

Mrs. Davidson received her undergraduate degree at Dillard University in New Orleans.  She subsequently attended Atlanta University, where she received her advanced degree and met her future husband, who was pursuing his advanced degree at the same time.

Building upon her Master of Social Work degree, Mrs. Davidson infused her natural empathy and strong desire to be helpful into her first major career step: social worker in the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services.  She is perhaps best remembered, though, for her work at Johnson C. Smith University.  Starting in 1972, Mrs. Davidson served as a member of the faculty until her retirement.  One of her proudest accomplishments at the university was shepherding its social work program to formal accreditation.  Dedicated to her mission in the classroom, Mrs. Davidson also took deep pride in the accomplishments of her students and delighted in staying in touch with them years after their graduation.

Naturally outgoing – a true “people person” – Mrs. Davidson also had a vibrant social life.  She was an active, longtime member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she served in various volunteer roles.  An avid bridge player, she was also a longstanding member of the Metrolina Duplicate Bridge Club and the Charlotte chapter of The Holidays.  Committed to lifelong learning, she was an enthusiastic member of the Priscilla Literary and Art Club as well.

Mrs. Davidson is survived by her children, Mack III (of Boston, MA) and Lynn (of Carlisle, PA), son-in-law John C. “JC” Hicks, and grandchildren Joshua, Benjamin, Deborah, Hannah, and Nathanael.  She is also fondly remembered by members of her extended family and many friends.  In addition to her late husband, Mrs. Davidson was predeceased by her son Wayne.
