Service Announcements

Rev. Jimmie Rogers Hunter, Sr. 80, of Charlotte, NC passed away Friday, January 18, 2019 at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis. He was the son of the late Charles Hunter and Carrie Lee McGlivery. Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Weeping Willow AME Zion Church 2220 Milton Rd., Charlotte, NC 28215. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and the service will follow at 2:00 pm. Military rites and interment will take place on Monday, January 28, 2019 at The Salisbury National Cemetery 501 Statesville Blvd. Salisbury NC 28144 at 2:00 pm.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Hunter and one sister, Dorothy Hardy, and one aunt, Elizabeth Hunter Jordan.

Rev. Hunter graduated from Dunbar High School, East Spencer, NC. He furthered his training as a barber for 50 years in Stanley, Rowan and Mecklenburg Counties. He was a pastor of Poplar Springs A.M.E. Zion Church, Lincolnton, NC and an associate minister at St. Matthew Baptist Church, Rockwell, NC and Weeping  Willow A.M.E. Zion Church, Charlotte, NC. He also served as a part of the Men’s Prayer Group. He enjoyed making jewelry.

Rev. Hunter leaves to cherish his memories, wife Sarah Hunter of Harrisburg, NC, son, Jimmie Hunter Jr. (Denise) of Concord, NC, daughter Adrianne McAuley of Baltimore, Md, three grandchildren, five great grand children, brothers, Charles Hunter (Ann) of Maryland, Perry Hunter of Washington, DC and sister Elizabeth Williams of Washington, DC.  And a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
