Mrs. Jettie Jones Givens, 92, of Charlotte, NC passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022 at University Place Nursing & Rehab. Center. Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Walls Memorial AME Zion Church 2722 Bancroft St. Charlotte, NC 28206. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. Interment will be in the Ingram Memorial Gardens.
Jettie Mae Jones Givens was born to Rosa Mae and Ferdinand Jones Jr. on August 13, 1929 in the small town of McColl, South Carolina. She graduated from McColl High School at the age of fifteen years old. After graduating she moved to Charlotte, NC, to live with her uncle and aunt John Willie and Helen Lester to start her adult life. Soon after Jettie was united in matrimony to William Givens in 1949. To this were born two sons, William and Harold Givens. As a young woman she worked very hard during her tenure in Food Service for The North Carolina National Bank (NCNB), UNCC of Charlotte, and Harris Teeter LLC from which she retired. Jettie was a long-time member of Walls Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church. She served on the stewardess board, hymn choir, kitchen committee, usher board, progressive women club and was consecrated as a deaconess where she served faithfully for many years. Socially she was a member of The Industrial Women’s Club.
Jettie was a wonderful mother to her two sons, a wonderful friend to many, and an inspiration to those who met her. She leaves to cherish her memories: Sons William (Christine) Givens and Harold (Deborah) Givens. Her Grandchildren: Monika Givens, Torrez Dash, Kendra Brown, Aneshia Givens and Jaron Givens. Jettie’s Great grands: Alexis Givens, Aliya Givens, Dallas Givens, Kristina Brown, Kendall Brown, Jashyhad Brice Dash, Daezure Bryant Dash, Daniia Dash, Jayden Roberts Dash, Noah Dash.
Jettie was blessed with 13 siblings. Preceded in glory by siblings: Martha Rose Jones, Franklin Jones, Robert Jones, Paul Steven Jones, Eddie Lee Jones, Delores Jones, and Annie Louise Jones.
She is survived by: one sister, Catherine Jones Easterling. Five brothers Isaac Jones, George Jones, Samuel Jones, Joseph Jones, and Lenwood Jones. She also leaves to cherish her memory a special aunt, Helen Lester and a host of nieces and nephews.
She accepted her sickness without complaint or blame. She showed great courage, strength, and dignity. Now she has gone to reap the reward which she has earned.
