Mr.Jasper Cal Lewis,Jr. 80, of Matthews,NC. passed away Monday June 4,2018 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House – Aldersgate Charlotte,NC. Funeral service will be held Saturday June 9,2018 at Greater Providence Baptist Church 2000 Milton Rd. Charlotte, NC 28215. Visitation will began at 12:45 pm and the service will follow at 1:30 pm.US Air Force rites and interment will take place on Monday June 11,2018 at 10:00 am in the Salisbury National Cemetery 501 Statesville Blvd. Salisbury, NC 28144.

Jasper Cal Lewis son of Viola Taylor and the late Jasper Lewis Sr. was born February 25th, 1938 in Marion, SC.  Jasper went home to be with the Lord June 4th, 2018.

Jasper received his early education in Mullins, SC and Baltimore, MD.  He graduated from Palmetto High School.  At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ and became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church of Mullins, SC.  He joined the Air Force where he served as an Air Policemen in Florida and overseas in England.  After serving in the Air force he was employed with Remington Arms and Westinghouse in Bridgeport, CT.   Jasper attended Morgan State University and worked for Locke Insulator Manufacturer while striving for his degree in Baltimore, MD.

Jasper met the love of his life Bertha in Baltimore, MD and they were united in marriage for 42 blissful years.  They were a beautiful, loving couple who together raised five children.  Jasper and Bertha were together so much they were nicknamed “the twins”.  Jasper loved the Lord and was faithful in his service.  Those around him loved him dearly because of his wisdom, whit, and his honesty.  He met no strangers.  He completed his education and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from State University of New York College at Brockport in Brockport, NY and Master of Science in Education from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY followed by an School Administrator/Supervisor Certificate from the New York State Education Department.  He was a dedicated teacher with the Rochester City School District teaching Health Education.  Jasper also led the Operation Homework after school and summer school programs and continued working in the public school system for 20+ years until he retired.

Jasper was an avid hunter and fisherman.  Each year he loved planting vegetables and watching them grow in his garden.

Jasper was preceded in death by his Father; Jasper Lewis Sr., Brother; Bert Otis Lewis and Son; Willie Lewis aka Mpenda Sa-Ra.

He leaves to cherish his memory his Mother; Viola Taylor of Baltimore MD.  His beautiful, loving and devoted wife, Bertha Lewis, Sons; Matthew (Darlene) Lewis of Bayonne NJ; Lewis L. Lewis of Rochester, NY, Jason Lewis and Daughter; Tyra (Herbert) Richardson of Charlotte NC, Daughter-In-Law; Lisa Sa-Ra of San Mateo, CA.  Brothers, Samuel Lewis of Buffalo, NY, Jackie Lewis of Mullins, SC, Terry Lewis of Washington, DC.  Sisters; Reba Sindab of Mullins, SC, Mildred (John) Watson and Bertha Jenkins of Baltimore, MD, Sharon Lewis of Mullins, SC, Sandra Lewis of Denver, CO and Cathy Lewis of Charlotte, NC.  Sisters-In-Law; Barbara Sutton of Charlotte, Linda Sutton of Lumberton, NC and Brothers-In-Law; Glenn (Elizabeth) Sutton of Charlotte, NC and Ronald Sutton of Columbia, TN; twenty-three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many loving and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
