Obituary

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  1 Corinthians 15:57

James Ronald Stanley was welcomed into this world at 12:59 pm on October 22, 1961.  The Lord sent his Angel to bring him to his heavenly home at 10:23 am on October 11, 2019.  He was born in Charlotte, NC to James Foster Stanley and Loretta Crowder Stanley.

Ronald (also known as JR to his friends) was baptized and united with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in March 1974.  He participated in Sunday School and Wednesday Evening Bible Study for youth under the leadership of Sister Jean Grier.  After his marriage to the late Gladys Gamble Stanley (for 30 years), they united with the University Park (The Park) Baptist Church till her death in September 2016.

He was a graduate of West Charlotte High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement from Pfeiffer University.

JR loved to play basketball and starred on West Charlotte High (#23/33) and Pfeiffer University (#31) teams.  He loved people and had a contagious personality that would light up a room when he entered it.  He also looked forward to going to the McCrorey YMCA for physical therapy, where he met and befriended many people through his gentile smiles and giant personality.  Though he was stricken with a heart attack in May 1990, and subsequently a stroke in February 2009, he never complained.  Ron was not a quitter!  When asked how he was feeling, his favorite words were “I’m maintaining.”

Ronald leaves to cherish his precious memories, in addition to his parents, aunts: Juanita Jackson, Hallie Robinson, Ruby Vaught, Eula Billups, Virginia Stanley and Margaret Stanley’ uncles: George, David and Jaylnn Stanley; mother-in-law Ethel Gamble; brothers-in-law David, Clarence (Arlinda), Maurice (Abbey), Cosom (Veronie) and Delano Gamble; and cousins and a host of friends.
