Service Announcements

Mr. James Robinson, Jr.  62, Charlotte, NC passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020 in Cincinnati, OH. Funeral service will be held Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Long & Son Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will begin at 12:00pm and the service will follow at 1:00 pm.

James Robinson, Jr. was born December 18, 1957 in Charlotte, NC to the late James Robinson, Sr. and Evelyn Juanita Kerns Robinson.  After a lengthy battle with illness, James departed this life on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at the Parkside Nursing and Rehabilitation in Fairfield, OH.

James was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System and was a ­­­­1976 graduate of West Charlotte High School.   Due to his dual loves of music and photography, James continued his studies at Central Piedmont Community College, where he studied music theory and the principles of photography.  James will be remembered for many things – his wit, easygoing nature, love of debate, and musical talents.

A gifted musician, James spent much of his free time playing and listening to music.  During his youth, he was a devoted member and trumpet player in the band “Fire, Inc.”  In addition to being a trumpeter, James played the flute, acoustic guitar, and classic guitar.  He often shared his talents with others, frequently teaching aspiring musicians the elements of guitar playing.  In later years, James collected, studied, and appreciated multiple forms of music. Many of his loved ones will tell you – if you ever had a question about a nuance of music, James inevitably had the answer.

James also continued his passion of photography through much of his life, employed at Delmar Studios for many years.  He ended his career as a dutiful employee of the Charlotte, NC office of the Internal Revenue Service.  James took all aspects of employment very seriously and was admired by many for his love of regiment.  On a typical evening, James would be known to end his day by routinely adhering to a very defined schedule, which included meal preparation, laundry, and scripture reading.

James’ generous and loving nature touched the lives of so many.   A man of great faith, James’ love of Jesus Christ guided all aspects of his life.  James was an ordained Ruling Elder at First United Presbyterian Church, where he faithfully served until his health began to fail.  All who knew James would also agree that he truly loved his family.  And while he loved his parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and all, he had a special bond with his niece, Jamevelyn (AKA “cat-baby”).  Even during his frequent bouts with illness, James never missed a moment to support his family at reunions, events, activities, and graduations.

James is survived by his brother, Andrew Charles Robinson, and nieces Jamevelyn Robinson, Alanah Robinson, and Aurora Robinson.  Other survivors include aunts Vida K. Ivey of Spotsylvania, VA and Elnora K. Bryant of Lansing, MI; uncle Olanda Carr, Sr. of Charlotte, NC.; sister-cousin Tamara Carr Tate and ‘bro-cuz’ Olanda Carr, Jr. (Monica) of Harrisburg, NC; cousins Jim Langenkamp, Stephen Langenkamp (Carmen), and Max Langenkamp (Tonya) of Cincinnati, OH; and a host of other relatives and friends.
