Mr. Isiah Gilliam Sr. was born April 5, 1925 in Matthews, NC to the late Mr. Simon Gilliam and Mrs. Mable Robinson Gilliam. He departed this life on July 17, 2017 at White Oak Manor Nursing Home.Charlotte, NC. Funeral service will be held Monday July 24, 2017 at Big Pineville AME Zion Church 10562 Providence Rd. West . Charlotte, NC 28277. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. Military rites and interment will take place in the Church cemetery.

 

He joined Big Pineville A.M.E Zion Church at young age. He was longtime member and served as a Trustee and sang on the Vocal Choir before became ill. He served in the United States Army and was a Private in World War II. He was also employed by the City of Charlotte Water Utilities and the Key Man Building.

 

Preceding him in death were his wife of 66 years, Susie White Gilliam; two daughters, Alma and Theresa Gilliam; one son, Ralph Gilliam; one granddaughter, LaChandra Denee Gilliam; three brothers, John A. Gilliam, Arthur L. Gilliam, and James Porter.

 

He is survived by four children, Dorothy Taylor, Ida Davis (Jeffery), Isiah Gilliam Jr. (Brenda), Nathaniel Gilliam; one sister-in-law, Alma Nash (James); one aunt, Rachel Robinson; nine grandchildren, Marvin Taylor (Connie), James Gilliam, Derrick Gilliam, Evangela McConnell (Dennis), Jeanetta Young (Steve), Jeffery Davis Jr., Erica Lewis (Paul), Ralph Gilliam Jr., Ashley Gilliam; twelve great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
