I'm going to miss my best friend.

Ms. Hiawatha Foster's love for life, the life of future generations, and her profession will be forever etched in the many lives she have touched. Her work and advocacy to improve educational outcomes for children in Charlotte, North Carolina, the US, and abroad will be greatly missed. She was a soldier for that which was right for all humans. Her work with CMAE, NCAE, NEA, and Education International was living testimony of her belief in God, her family, her community, and most importantly future generations of leaders. I will greatly miss Ms. Foster's advocacy and passion for Public Education and those that diligently serve this most notable profession. My life have been enriched by the words and action of Ms. Foster. To the Family, may God grant you His peace as you cope with the passing of your loved one.

Hiawatha Foster was a strong advocate for children and for public schools in Charlotte, in North Carolina, in the United States, and, indeed, around the world. She spoke for children and for public schools at each of the conventions and conferences that she attended over her entire career in education. Her strong voice was heard at world conventions of Education International. Her voice was heard on the policy boards of the National Education Association and the North Carolina Association of Educators. Of course, policymakers in Charlotte knew of her strong stances in support of her professional colleagues and in support of the students of Mecklenburg County. In addition to her advocacy, Hiawatha was a great teacher who was able to connect her course work to the minds, hearts, and future careers of her students. May the legacy of Hiawatha Foster continue to light the paths of all who were inspired by her. Eddie Davis Durham, North Carolina
