Mrs. Hazel Jane Redfearn Miller, 88 of Charlotte, NC passed away Monday, February 5, 2024 at her residence. Celebration of her life will be held Monday, February 12, 2024 at East Stonewall AME Zion Church 1729 Griers Grove Rd. Charlotte, NC 28216. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and the Service will follow at 12:00 PM. Interment will be in the Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens 11201 Beatties Ford Road Huntersville, NC 28078.
Hazel Jane Redfearn Miller completed her life’s journey on February 5, 2024. She was born August 9, 1935, to the late Robert and Annie Jane Redfearn of Chesterfield County, South Carolina. She was a graduate of the Anson County School System.
She was married to the love of her life, the late Rev. Dr. Robert M. Miller for 46 years. Three children were born to this union. Hazel worked for Soderberg Manufacturing Company as a seamstress before being hired by Belk Store Services. She worked for Belk for over 30 years and retired in 2002.
She was one of the founding members of The Trinity Park Baptist Church and singing God’s praises was her passion. As a lead singer in the choir, Hazel blessed many with her angelic voice. One of her favorite songs to sing was “I Have the Courage” (to live for Jesus). Hazel continued to make a joyful noise unto the Lord until her health declined. She was very active in ministry and enjoyed working with the youth.
As a part of the former Mecklenburg General Baptist Association, Inc. she served three terms as the President of the Ministers’ Wives & Widows Auxiliary. As a community activist, Hazel was an active member of the Beatties Ford/Trinity Park Community Association.
Hazel was the oldest of eight children. She was preceded in death by two brothers (Robert Lee and Eugene Redfearn) and two sisters (Annie R. Spencer and Irene Liles). Her surviving siblings include Lucille Leaverson of Greensboro, Rev. Virginia Pratt of Rockingham, and Nevelyn Redfearn of Charlotte.
Hazel is survived by her two sons Eric (Toni) and Terrence (Loretta) Miller of Charlotte, daughters Greta (Timothy) Platt of Jamestown and a bonus daughter Cathy (Frank) Ware of Greensboro. Her grandchildren are Tierra (Gerald) McDonald, Chelsey Smith, Brandon Miller, and Nicholas & Donavon Platt. Bonus grandchildren are Darlena (Damon) Watkins, Frank & Connie Ware, Steven (Sara) Price, and Courtney (Lance) Claiborne. Her great grandchildren are Gabrielle, Grayson, and Greer. Her bonus great grandchildren are Monroe, Marlo, Malakai, Lucas, Leo, Darius, and Devin. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law Josephine Jackson and Peggy Simpson, one brother-in-law William (Mattie) Miller, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
