Mr. Harold Wendell Reese,Sr. 84, of Charlotte, NC. passed away August 19 ,2016 at Novant Presbyterian Medical Center- Main. Funeral service will be held Saturday August 27, 2016 at Greater Providence Missionary Baptist Church 2000 Milton Rd. Charlotte, NC 28215. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm and the service will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.

Born Harold Wendell Reese on April 16, 1932 in Dewmaine, Illinois Harold was the first child born to Ulus Reese Sr. and Cordelia Parran Reese. He attended Ramon Elementary School in Chicago and graduated from Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago.

Harold was a 32nd degree Mason. He attended the Hebrew Israelite Bible Congregation under the auspices of Moreh Casey.  He worked at the Container Corporation of America in  Chicago, Illinois,  where he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Mae Williams of Louisiana,  who remained his faithful wife.  They raised a beautiful family of eight children.  Harold and Dorothy moved to New Orleans, LA where he worked until retirement for the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA)  as a longshoreman,  and he was a  successful sales representative for Amway.

He was baptized at St. Mark’s Fourth Baptist Church in New Orleans where he and his family were active and loyal members. He and his wife were often featured vocalists. He was also a member of the Trustee Board, Brotherhood Choir and Church Choir.

After retirement he and his wife relocated to Charlotte where they purchased a home which became the central gathering place for family members and friends.  It was a home of tremendous gatherings including birthday parties, dinners and cook outs. It always was a home centered around faith and laughter.Shortly after arriving in Charlotte the Reese family  joined Greater Providence Baptist Church where Pastor Fred Gibson welcomed them and made sure they became immediately involved as active members of the Church.

Harold Wendell Reese Sr. was predeceased by his daughter Julie Reese Adams (Bryant)  of Charlotte. He leaves to cherish fond memories his wife of 59 years Dorothy Williams Reese of the home.  He is also survived by seven children: Claudette (Edward) Pearson of Kannapolis, NC; Michael (Gloria) Reese of Snellville, GA; Harold (Regina) Reese Jr. of Harrisburg, NC; Corrender (Ernest) Tabron of Charlotte, NC; Destiny (Michael) Chisholm Jr. of Charlotte, NC; Cory Brown of New Orleans, La.

Harold was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. He is  survived by 19 dear sisters and brothers including Ulus Reese Jr., Ivory Lee Reese, Thomas Reese, Barbra Ann Richardson, Malika Mac Cabee, Jacqueline Watson, Marilyn Webb, Sylvia Penny, Audrey Heintz, Linda Johnson, Karen Gordon, Debra Vaughn, William Sivels, Donald Sivels, Keith Sivels, Cleophes Henderson and James Henderson. He has left a legacy of love. He is  also survived by 16 enthusiastic loving grandchildren and 17 lovable great grandchildren.

Lest we forget, he is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
