Floyd Townsend was born in Kenbridge, Virginia to Otis and Lottie (Hardy) Townsend on June 8th, 1942.  Floyd was the middle child and grew up in Mount Vernon, New York with his two brothers James and Larry. After graduating from high school, he very proudly spent four years in the United States Air Force.
After returning to Mount Vernon, Floyd married the love of his life Joyce Smith in June 1969.  Floyd worked as a deputy sheriff in New York City while earning a degree from NYIT.  The couple moved to Wappingers Falls, NY where they raised their two children.  After moving, Floyd worked at IBM East Fishkill and was a manager when he retired.  In addition to his many endeavors, he was also a member of the Poughkeepsie Alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and a Freemason.
Upon retirement, Floyd and Joyce moved to North Carolina.  In retirement, Floyd was able to pursue all of his interests, all of the time.  Floyd’s favorite hobbies were cooking, playing cards (and winning), music, travelling, entertaining and most of all family and friends.
Floyd followed his older brother James who died in March 2020 and preceded his younger brother Larry by a week. Floyd leaves to mourn his wife Joyce, daughter Tiffany Townsend, son and daughter in law Roman and Eunice Townsend, and three grandsons, Isaiah Townsend, Ethan Farquharson and Orion Townsend.  In addition to the family there are a host of friends, adopted family and in-laws who will continue to miss him.
