Dear Family Members and Friends of Mrs. E. A. Anthony, I am sad to read of the passing of my dear friend and former co-worker Mrs. Esther Anthony. Mrs. Anthony and I met when we were young teachers at East Union School in Marshville, NC. Our classrooms were just two rooms apart as I taught first grade and she taught second. We became close friends and remained in touch as friends long after we retired. We became telephone friends when the long commute became a barrier for both of us. Esther was a life long friend and an excellent teacher. I will cherish our times together always. Please receive my deepest condolences. Rosa L.Poston Monroe,NC

I just received a telephone call from Mrs. Rosa Poston (former teacher at East Union School, Marshville, NC) to tell me of the death of Mrs. E.A. Anthony. Please receive this message as a gesture of condolence from the William T. & Leola Daniels Colson Adult children who very blessed to have had Mrs. Anthony as a second grade teacher. Although I did not have Ms. Anthony as my teacher,I have memories of M. Anthony as a teacher in the primary section of East Union School in Marshville, NC. The school was small with two teachers for each grade level of students and the intimacy of the school's student-teacher population allowed us to know all of the teachers because they would teach other siblings on the one school union campus. I was a fifth grader when the school was built in 1952-53 and I heard all of the students speaking of this extraordinarily beautiful, soft-spoken second grade teacher. That was how I will always remember Ms. Anthony. She was just what the rural children needed to feel accepted as a part of the class at that time. Farm crops were a priority and children began the year at any time. Ms. Anthony received them whenever they arrived with her ever welcoming smile, soft, caring voice and a special seat near her desk. Often we would find an excuse to go into her room just to look at this petite, sharp-dressing second grade teachers who became a professional role model for so many of us who followed her into the teaching profession. May we forever hold dear the example she paved and etched in our life paths. With love and respect, for each of the Colsons who were taught and guided by Ms. E. A. Ms. Anthony as we called her for many years at East Union School in Marshville, NC taught 2nd grade and later taught I want to say 4th grade. She was not only a pretty lady she was a soft spoken very kind person. All children wanted to be in her room. I only saw her once since she retired from teaching many years ago and at that time she hadn't changed a bit, still pretty. I see she must have lived that way outside of school because she lived to be 102 years, such a blessing.
