Dudley Riley, III (July 1, 1933 – May 4, 2016), of Charlotte North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 4, 2016. Dudley was a Cincinnati, Ohio native, and was the son of the late Margaret and Dudley Riley, II. He was also a former resident of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Dudley was a loving husband and a dedicated member of Reeder Memorial Baptist Church of Charlotte. Survivors include his wife, Lynda Smith Riley; daughters Natalie Betts of Oakland, California, Wendy Sumpter of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Tracy Giles of Boca Raton, Florida and Heather Riley (Jeffrey Scott) of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother James Riley and niece Carla Riley of Detroit, Michigan; grandsons Scott (Andria) Riley, Jonte Riley, Britt Giles, Jeffrey Scott and Daumu (Tyshima) Witherspoon; granddaughters Brooke Giles, Darnisha Riley, Sadye Riley and Nicole Taylor; brother-in-law Theodore Smith of Mooresville, North Carolina; sisters-in-law Marian Smith Allison, Dorothy Smith, Laura Smith and Theresa Smith of Mooresville, North Carolina, and a host of friends, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Dudley was a veteran, having been honorably discharged from the United States Air Force and was awarded with the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Occupation Medal (Germany).

He was a successful entrepreneur as the owner/barber of Magic Touch, where he encouraged young people to do their best in life. He really enjoyed listening to the blues and jazz music, and he had a deep love of animals, particularly dogs.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Dudley Riley, III will be held Monday, May 9, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Reeder Memorial Baptist Church, 3725 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte. Per Dudley’s wishes, his remains will be cremated and his ashes placed at the Veterans’ Cemetery in Salisbury, North Carolina.
