Mrs. Dorothy Dixon Franklin of Charlotte. passed away Tuesday February 7, 2017 at her resident .Funeral service will be held Saturday February 11, 2017 at Mallard Creek United House of Prayer. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm. Interment will be in the Church cemetery.

On Tuesday, February 7^th God interrupted the earthly dreams of Dorothy Dixon Franklin (Dottie) to call her home. She was born on November 18^th, 1928 in Concord, North Carolina to Roberta Morehead and James Davis. As a child she was educated in Concord Schools. When she became a young adult she moved to New York in search of new horizons. Ultimately she met the love of her life, William Henry Franklin, better known as “Frank.” Dottie and Frank spent many years building a life for themselves by operating a very successful full service gas station. They worked hard and shared the fruits of their labor with family and friends. If one of theirs was without, they shared their blessings and bounty with others.

Eventually Frank and Dottie retired and decided to reconnect with their southern roots. They settled in Charlotte where Dottie created a welcoming home and environment for family and friends. She and Frank settled into a comfortable and slower pace of life.

Holidays and celebrations constantly found the Franklin home full of company. There was always an abundance of food, fun and love to go around. What was Frank’s was Dottie’s and vice versa, including their children. She and Frank routinely helped people who were experiencing hard times. If someone needed someplace to stay to get back on their feet there was always room. After raising their own children Dottie and Frank raised grandchildren, nieces and nephews and non-family members right under their roof. To them they were all family.

Dottie’s loves were family, Frank and church. Before her health began to fail, she loved attending church and was a faithful worshiper. She worked with other Saints within the congregation with the Food Pantry. It was befitting that she would work with this ministry to help the less fortunate because that’s how she lived her life.

Over the years Dottie worked as a CNA caring for the elderly, often staying with them in the evenings to keep them company and comfort them in their last days. Her clients loved her and were saddened when she was not able to work anymore.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, her daughter, Freddie Jean Parker, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. She leaves to mourn her loss, her children, Benjamin Franklin (Dianne) of New York, Lisa Franklin Carter (Joseph) and Gregory Franklin of Charlotte, Lomas James (Zerisha) of Suffolk, Virginia and Eva Franklin and Bobby Edwards, Jr. also of Charlotte; several grandchildren including Brian Franklin of Atlanta, Terry Dixon, of Concord, Sonya Wright of Atlanta and many great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Special mention is deserving of her nephew, Lomas. Dottie once stayed with him for several months in Virginia. After longing for home she returned to Charlotte. Lomas often made the sacrifice to travel to Charlotte to attend to home repairs and her health concerns. He was with her till the end. When Lomas was not able to be here, he and Dottie’s grandson, Terry worked together to take care of Dottie’s needs. Many extended and honorary family members and friends will miss Dottie as well.
