I just received Don's obituary from a mutual friend. Don (Ham) and I went through Army school together and both were sent to Okinawa out of school. He and I roomed, worked, and socialized together during our 18 month tour. At the end, Ham went to Ft. Meade and I went to Thailand and I lost track of him, Ham was about the nicest person I've ever known. He was always upbeat and extremely reliable. When you were his friend, he had your back through thick and thin. You could always count on Ham. The two of us had 1 coat between us that we shared. He was much bigger than I so the coat was a bit long for me and a bit short for him. I loved him as my brother and I miss him. Reading his obituary, I'm saddened but awed by all the amazing things he did with his life. All qualities I saw in him back in Okinawa. My heart goes out to his family.
