Mr. Donald Edward Nelson, Sr.,83, of Charlotte. passed away Tuesday, April 9,2019 at his residence. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 13,2019 at University Church of Christ Church 9920 Newell Hickory Grove Rd. Charlotte, NC 28213. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service will follow at 12:00 pm Military rites will follow the service. Interment will take place Monday, April 15,2019 at 1:00 pm in the Salisbury National Cemetery 501 Statesville Blvd. Salisbury, NC 28144.

Donald Edward Nelson was born on June 4, 1935 in Atlantic City, New Jersey to the late John Henry and Ollie B. Nelson. Donald was educated in the Atlantic City School System graduating from Atlantic City High School.  After graduation he was enlisted in the United States Army Reserve, where he served during the Korean War.  After serving our country, he worked as a supervisor in the Air Traffic Control Simulation and EEO Counselor for the Federal Aviation Administration until he retired in 1993. After retirement, he continued his employment with H&R Block.

Early in life he married the late Doris Landing and to that union one son was born, Donald Jr.(Audrey)  Later in life he met Dorothy Robinson at FAA Technical Center. They were united in marriage on September 15, 1995.  Donald was baptized into the body of Christ at the North Field church of Christ in North Field, New Jersey. Where he served faithfully until he relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina. Donald and Dorothy placed membership at the University church of Christ where he served faithfully until his illness. Donald Edward Nelson departed this life on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at his residence.

He was preceeded in death by his brothers Joe and David Nelson, his sisters Corrine Reid, Isadora McKinney, and Reo Burch.  He leaves to mourn his devoted wife Dorothy, his sons Donald Jr,(Audrey) and Derrick Glass: brother George ”Pete”, sisters Dorothy ”Midge” Freeland and Ollie “Merle” Bryant (Leon): 3 grandchildren: Donald III, Khamiya, and Aaliyah. 5 great-grands, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a loving church family.
